KODAK EASYSHARE Z980 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The Z980's strengths are compromised by its image quality. The lens suffers from heavy barrel distortion at the wide-angle end of the zoom, chromatic aberrations at the telephoto end and poor focus towards the edges of frames. Noise is just as bad, with blotchy colours and grainy details at ISO 200, let alone 400 and higher. Even in sunlight at ISO 64, subtle detail was glossed over and sharp edges looked scrappy.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

For a surprisingly lightweight ‘bridge' camera, Kodak's new headlining Z980 has strikingly easy controls, a terrific new 24x optical zoom and a helpful second shutter system for use with portrait photography. It's also worth shopping around when buying, as prices online vary shockingly from around £300 to £450.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

It's been decades since I've shot a Kodak camera, but with the feature-rich Z980 Kodak has produced a viable contender in the ultrazoom compact digital class. Image quality and color fidelity are generally good, and shutter lag is first-rate. AF acquisition times are good at wide angle, and competitive with others in the field at the telephoto end.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

If you don't mind the additional weight and size, and you can overlook the slight shortcomings in imaging, the Kodak EasyShare Z980 is a solid buy. Its speed makes it a winner of a camera, even if Kodak isn't as sexy as other brands.

Performance wise, the camera does well with colour and focusing but the sheer volume of noise spoils the overall results.

CrunchGear‘s review Edit

Kodak makes a nice camera. They’ve redefined the low-end of the market and this is a strong addition to their portfolio. But, again, I’m not a fan of ultra-zoom cameras. This camera is bulky and its relative limitations hamper its otherwise impressive and pleasing performance. Comparing and contrasting this model with slightly more expensive DSLRs is a must, just as you would when dealing with any ultrazoom camera from any manufacturer.

Photography Review‘s review Edit

I wanted to love this camera. Having previously purchased two Kodak digital cameras that I loved, I was predisposed to love the Z980. But the best I can say is that I like it. I truly like its amazing lens, good design, speedy shutter and the accurate Smart Capture shooting mode. These are all great features that made the camera a pleasure to use. And I did get many pictures with it that I like.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

Kodak's EasyShare Z980 is a great super-zoom model. This camera offers pleasing image quality, speedy performance, and loads of useful exposure modes. The addition of the vertical shutter release and detachable vertical grip really add to the appeal, especially since the Z980 can capture some beautiful portraits. The only issues I had with this camera were the extremely slow red-eye reduction pre-flash and the poor high ISO performance.

Anyone who takes a lot of vertical shots, shoots in RAW, and needs a hotshoe can probably overlook the Z980's image shortcomings.

The Kodak EasyShare Z980 super-zoom camera offers a lot on paper, but some serious flaws make it hard to recommend to either beginners or more experienced users alike.

The Kodak EasyShare Z980 has a lot to offer--including a wide-angle 24x zoom lens--but you'll have to overlook its clunky design and noisy photos.
