GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD7 (rev. 1.0) Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

The GA-X58A-UD7 is a great motherboard that provides versatility and performance all in one package. The USB 3.0 support give it potential for the future, and the many other features such as SLI and CrossFireX support make it an excellent choice for gamers.

Gigabyte X58A-UD7 is really a top-shelf motherboard for Intel socket 1366 CPUs. It has all the features sought after by enthusiast users who want the newest technologies available, such as USB 3.0 and SATA-600 ports. Its cooling system is amazing, with a watercooler block for the chipset north bridge chip (which also cools down the south bridge chip and the transistors of the voltage regulator circuit, as they are connected by heatpipes) and a big modular heatsink that uses one slot of the case.

The full depth of proprietary product features adds value to the asking price when you add them up, especially TPM encryption security and the Hybrid Silent-Pipe 2 module or X58 waterblock. Considering the improved real-world performance against existing USB-2.0/SATA-3G X58-Express solutions, enthusiasts can count on top-level system performance with the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

While the GA-X58A-UD7 ticks many of the right boxes for a high-end Core i7 motherboard, with its excellent performance, great features and lots of overclocking potential, we also have to question some of Gigabyte’s decisions. Our main problem is with the massively oversized chipset heatsink - it just doesn’t provide enough of a benefit, especially as it may impede airflow through your case. The chipset waterblock barely makes contact with the component that it’s supposed to be cooling. Four SATA controllers is also an excessive number by anybody’s standard.

We really like the Gigabyte X58A-UD7 motherboard. It does however feel like it was rushed out the door in an attempt to grab some of the "me first" spotlight when it comes to new features like USB 3.0 and SATA 3. The X58A-UD7 will overclock like a beast and has the stability needed to back that OCing up. The X58A-UD7 leans toward being an enthusiast-only motherboard, till you click one button in Easy Tune 6 and get a scalding 4.1GHz overclock after a reboot. Put into all of this that the X58A-UD7 is ready for Gulftown processors with a BIOS update and it is looking like a great package.

PC Pro‘s review Edit

It's one for real enthusiasts only, but with both SATA/600 and USB 3, the stratospheric price may just be worth paying.

While the $360CDN pricetag will be off-putting to many, it is not at all unreasonable for a motherboard of this caliber. There's always a market for those who demand the very best, and there's not much better than the X58A-UD7.

tweaktown‘s review Edit

The GIGABYTE X58A-UD7 is a nice board. It looks cool in your system (if you have a window) and is clearly capable of some good performance. However, we did not see that on the bench. But, I would not give up on the X58A-UD7. According to the overclocker "Hi Cookie" there is a new BIOS on the way that greatly improves performance with the 32nm Gulftown CPU. At the time of testing (and writing) we did not have access to this BIOS, but we do hope to return to the X58A once it is out and see what we find.

motherboards‘s review Edit

GIGABYTE has really outdone itself with the X58A-UD7 motherboard. They name their boards by the number of features on the board and the X58A-UD7 has the most features of any of their boards. This board supports the latest technologies including SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0. The board supports dual-slot 3-way SLI with four PCI Express slots allowing for the ultimate gaming machine with the upcoming Gulftown CPUs. GIGABYTE’s motherboard overclocks to over 3.7GHz from the standard 2.66GHz on standard cooling, making it a great overclocker as well. With its overclocking and gaming option features as well as everything else about this new motherboard is rock solid. This is a serious Editor’s Choice Product.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

The ASUS P6X58D Premium and the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 emerged mostly equal in our performance tests. For the most part, our reference, non-SATA 6Gbit/s motherboard could keep up with these upgraded X58 boards. Only in certain benchmark segments do we find a slight difference, which meant that if you already have a competent X58 board, there are no pressing reasons to upgrade. SATA 6Gbit/s by itself unfortunately will not make an impact, at least not without a SSD that can take advantage of it.
