Sony PRS-650 Pro Reviews

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The PRS-650 is a king among ereaders, but it also comes with a royal price tag. If you can stomach the extra expenditure though, its screen is top-notch, not dulled at all by the addition of touchscreen tech. Light, comfortable-to-hold and at least as tough as the competition, it's worth keeping as a constant literary companion.

Every company that produces ereaders has an uphill struggle to beat Amazon's Kindle. This is partly a matter of features but just as importantly a matter of access to a large ebook store. The Sony Reader Touch PRS-650 can't match the Kindle in the latter respect, but for those wanting to manage their own ebooks it is a very nicely put together reader.

I've always been a Sony fan, and the Reader Touch Edition certainly doesn't disappoint. The hardware is impressive, the screen is delightful, and the overall user experience is quite nice. There are a few disappointments, such as the lack of wireless support (unless you purchase the larger and more expensive Sony Reader Daily Edition) and the inability to charge the Reader with any third party accessory.

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

Currently, the Sony Reader Touch Edition sells for $229. As it costs more than both the Kindle ($139 for Wi-Fi, $189 for 3G) and the Nook ($149 for Wi-Fi, $199 for 3G), Sony has an uphill battle convincing consumers that touch capability and a more tightly focused reading experience is worth giving up wireless. Many consumers prefer the convenience of being able to buy books and keep their library updated without having to connect to a computer. However, the ability to navigate by touch is instinctual for many, and this eReader satisfies in that regard.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Sony Reader Touch Edition (PRS-650) is a nice upgrade to the previous model, with an improved touch screen and a few new features, but a $229 price and lack of wireless connectivity kill its appeal.

A full-screen touch display makes navigating this e-reader easy. It’s a good fit for shoppers who appreciate its build quality and don’t mind its lack of wireless, but let's be clear: You’re paying more for a slimmer feature set.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Sony Reader Touch Edition PRS-650 is a slick e-book reader that's anchored by an impressive and easy-to-use touch interface, but the glaring omission of wireless connectivity will be a deal-killer for many--especially at this price.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

In these wallet-tightening times this may be too much for some. But Sony has created a product well deserving of the price. The aluminium chassis is one of the most desirable we have seen at any price, it feels perfect in the hand and is easy to read. The quality of the touchscreen will blow most ebook reader naysayers away. But the price will unfortunately put others off – or at least turn them to the perfectly priced Amazon Kindle 3.

Provides serious competition to the Amazon Kindle, but Sony’s reader can’t quite compete on convenience and comes nowhere near on price

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Sony Reader Touch Edition (PRS-650) is a handsomely crafted eBook reader that impresses on almost every level. However, with no Wi-Fi or bundled accessories, it's perhaps a teensy bit overpriced.
