Pentax K20D Pro Reviews

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

Pentax has certainly made a number of improvements over the already very capable K10D, which in turn makes the K20D a powerful and feature-packed DSLR. The biggest and most important is of course the sensor, with the K20D delivering the most detailed images from a camera at its price point, while respectably keeping noise levels under control at higher sensitivities. This alone will sell it to many people.

PC World‘s review Edit

Although the K20 does some things well, its slow autofocus frustrates.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

Since my day-to-day camera is a Pentax K10D, I was curious how the K20D would compare. I expected the camera to perform better than the K10D and prove to be a worthwhile upgrade. What I discovered was that the K20D is an amazing camera in much the same way as the older K10D. In short, while it's a very good camera, it might not be a worthwhile upgrade for current K10D owners.

With the launch of the K20D Pentax is taking on the top players in the semi-pro DSLR market. It has a class-leading specification, with build quality, handling and performance to match, and has exactly the sort of features that will appeal to advanced amateurs and semi-professionals. The slight problems with exposure consistency are annoying but not fatal, and the breathtaking detail of that 14.6MP sensor more than makes up for it.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

At first glance the Pentax K20D simply looks like an incremental upgrade of the K10D, with relatively few additions on offer apart from the headline-grabbing 14 megapixel resolution. Whilst the increased image size is certainly worthy of attention, Pentax have made a substantial number of improvements underneath the surface that add up to make the K20D a really compelling DSLR camera.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

I have put the bar quite high for the Pentax K20D. It should surpass the K10D, a camera that I like a lot. Luckily Pentax have not let me down. The best of the K10D has been preserved, and Pentax have added some nice extras.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

With its 14.6-megapixel sensor, the Pentax K20D produces some of the highest-resolution photographs in its category. It's a tough job to squeeze that huge number of pixels into an APS-C sized sensor, but the K20D manages it quite well; noise isn't a practical factor until ISO 800, edges are well-preserved, and even at ISO 1,600 8x10-inch prints are excellent.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

The K20D is a great camera for the photo-enthusiast - and the pro shooter alike. The new 14.6-megapixel CMOS image sensor, combined with a lot of modern technology create a wonderful camera for around US$1100.

Pentax's 14MP K20D is a great choice for a midlevel SLR and offers a lot of bang for the buck.

DP Review‘s review Edit

Because the K20D offers so much that the enthusiast photographer would enjoy, it would be churlish to let the sensor-based flaws, which have little impact in real-world shooting, prevent us giving the camera our highest award. This isn't to say it's a faultless camera or one that's suited to everybody but one with only minor drawbacks that should only dissuade a small number of potential buyers.
