NOKIA E7 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Symbian is coming to the end of its lifespan as an operating system for Nokia's higher-end smartphones, and ^3 doesn't feel particularly sophisticated. Knowing this makes the E7 feel dated, despite some high-end specifications.

There is a good phone inside here but the operating system and keyboard let it down.

A beautifully designed, well-built phone with an excellent camera and a full QWERTY keyboard, but as the OS is on the way out there's little point in buying a Symbian phone.

Overall, the Nokia E7 is a nice piece of hardware design, and would've got full marks had it not been for a few niggles here and there. Perhaps if Nokia had been able to load Windows Phone 7 onto the E7 it would've been a winning combination, but for now with the aging Symbian platform at its core the E7 struggles to be a great handset.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Despite a high price tag of S$989, the Nokia E7 is a reasonable purchase for those who are looking for a business-centric phone that strikes a good balance between productivity and lifestyle - if you don't mind the rather complicated Symbian OS. As mentioned earlier, the phone does have some substantial hardware features, but do keep in mind that if you are looking for phones with more flexibility and entertainment value, you are better off with the HTC Desire Z or the iPhone 4 as the Nokia Ovi Store pales in comparison to the Android Marketplace or the Apple iTunes App Store. The E7 would have been a stunner if it came a year earlier, but at this juncture, the software platform featured on the E7 raises a lot of questions with regards to its longevity.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Nokia E7 has some wonderful qualities, like great hardware and excellent battery life, but ultimately its inferior software trips up this business-oriented smartphone.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

For die-hard Symbian fans, the Nokia E7 is a beautiful farewell as the company shifts to Microsoft's mobile OS; all others should stick with Android or iOS devices.

Softpedia‘s review Edit

If I were to choose one Nokia phone for my own use I would definitely go for the E7. Even though I'm not too fond of the Symbian platform, the device is that eye-catchy. Additionally, its overall construction and material used are commendable as well. Nokia E7 takes all the N8's features and adds a very cool QWERTY keyboard and a larger screen. Also, the fact that the phone is an all-rounder when it comes to features is likely to get Nokia more fans.

There's no two ways about it, the Nokia E7 just doesn't cut it. The hardware is lovely with loads of luxurious metal, a great screen and superb keyboard. However, the software is a pig to use and is rather slow as well. Add in the silly slip up of having no autofocus on the camera and you have a phone that's only worth considering if you're a Nokia/Symbian/keyboard fan that simply can't bear to change. Even then we'd probably opt for the Nokia N8.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

It’s a heavy beast, clearly intended for business users. And as mobile offices go it’s a terrific tool, with a fine keyboard, excellent screen, more than capable camera and a feast of software goodies for work and fun. The problem, as it has been with Nokia for a while now, is Symbian, which has been improving, but seems so far behind its Android and iOS rivals that there’s no way it can catch up.

But with better software to support the hardware specs, this handset could be a market leader, instead it's simply a little too expensive for its asking price, and forgettable overall.

The Nokia E7 is a superbly built smartphone with an excellent display, a great keyboard and very impressive specifications. But smartphones are no longer about the specifications as much as the entire user experience, and it's here where the E7 fails miserably.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

Last time we checked, Eseries were the easiest phones to recommend to anyone looking for a handsome, sensible and powerful business phone. And they didn’t even have to be die-hard Symbian fans. But things look different for the E7 – its timing just couldn’t have been worse. This may not be the end of an era – but the Nokia E7 certainly is on the wrong end of a generation gap.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

In short, if you are a Nokia fan, you won't be disappointed with the Nokia E7. If you have left the camp, or never been lured into it, the HTC 7 Pro with Windows Phone 7, and the HTC Desire Z with Android are both excellent choices with physical slide-out QWERTY keyboards.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

There are several reasons for which we want to love the Nokia E7. The physical design is cleaner than the N8, build quality puts rival handsets from Samsung and LG to shame, the physical keyboard could give RIM nightmares and, mediocre display resolution aside, Nokia’s hardware spec sheet is bulging with everything the smartphone needs to be taken seriously. Even the relatively underpowered CPU makes sense when you look at battery life and the moderate demands Symbian makes of it.

Nice hardware, great keyboard, but we're not so sure about the software - a similar refrain from most recent Nokia's recently. As such we're still tempted to wait for Nokia's Meego-based handsets to finally appear, though there's no doubting this is a business handset with great potential.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Nokia says that the fightback has started. They know they are lacking the adoption in the smartphone end that they want, with the likes of Apple and Google taking bites out of what was once Nokia's stomping ground. Nokia put on a show of strength today, claiming that they were launching multiple devices to suit different budgets and tastes. There is no doubting that the E7 looks sensational. It feels great in the hands and the keyboard is excellent to use. But some unexpected sluggishness in the new operating system takes the shine off things, hopefully down to pre-release software. We're almost disappointed not to be blown away, we want Nokia in the game, but we can't help feeling that not enough has changed.
