After putting the ASUS 1005HA through a bunch of tests, we're happy to report that there are some tangible gains in battery life relative to the previous 1000HE. Other than that, there's not much to differentiate the two models. That in a nutshell describes much of the netbook market: all of the various products are extremely similar in terms of features and specifications. The only real differences are often more subjective, but keyboards, touch pads, and LCDs can still make or break a product. The 1005HA may not be a revolutionary product, but it evolves the netbook just enough to make it worthwhile.

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA Seashell is a compromise. Granted, it's a good one for those that liked the sleek style of the Eee PC 1008HA, but wanted either to see less flash or to spend less cash. That said, you're seeing netbook prices driving down into the £300 range. So take a look for yourself to see if this fits your netbook needs.

Despite the slightly larger chassis, the extra battery power offered by the Asus Eee PC Seashell 1005HA will certainly appeal to those after all-day usability from their netbook. This is a great product and one that offers a valid alternative to other 6-cell carrying machines.

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA isn’t the thinnest or lightest netbook around. But it is has a few features you won’t find on the ultrathin Eee PC 1008HA, including a removable battery and full sized VGA port. I’m also glad to be rid of the bright blue LED in the back of the Eee PC 1008HA, which was a personal pet peeve.

The 1005HA is slightly marred by the lower powered CPU and battery life in our netbook, although the shipping unit has been confirmed to last up to 8.5 hours. The new clamshell design we first saw in the 11.6-inch screen 1101HA was a welcomed change, as they all look now much more like a laptop and less like a budget portable device.

The ASUS Eee PC 1005HA is one of the best looking, all-round performing netbooks on the market currently. Excellent display, battery life good on average for 8.5 hours (can squeeze out more), keyboard and multi-touch capable touchpad. Controllable fan noise. Good Linux compatibility.

Asus' Eee PC 1005HA is a great addition to the "Seashell" family. The uncovered ports make accessing sockets easier, and the standard VGA port is great for those who rely heavily on an external monitor of some sort. Plus, the ability to swap in a new battery is a real boon for anyone who travels often or spends long days away from the AC outlet.

The ASUS Seashell 1005HA netbook is the latest iteration of the Eee PC line that takes in a specification which we've become accustomed to in the last year or so. Shipping with a 10in screen (1,024x600 resolution); the now-ubiquitous Atom N270 chip; Intel i945GSE chipset; GMA950 graphics; 1GB RAM; 802.11b/g/n WiFi, SIM-card slot; 160GB mechanical HDD, and Windows XP Home, the competition is fierce because there are many clones that litter the market.

The new ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell might seem like "just another Eee PC" at first glance, but upon closer examination it's clear that ASUS has refined their popular line of netbooks with every variation. The Eee PC 1005A is one of the best eveolutions of the Eee PC line so far.

I can sum up the Asus Eee PC 1005HA in one sentence: It's a slightly thicker, slightly cheaper version of the Eee PC 1008HA. Hey, it's only fair. At this point, Asus releases more netbooks than Baskin Robbins has flavors. I won't recap all the versions we've reviewed--or are about to review--but the netbook maker continues making nips and tucks with designs, making just enough variations to warrant a separate take of the same micromachine. Is the 1005HA for you, though?
