Pentax K-X Pro Reviews

www.whatdigitalcamera.com‘s review Edit

The Pentax K-x manages to offer plenty of functionality in a small package, and produces images of a high standard. As a beginner's camera it provides plenty to explore, while equally it wouldn't be out of place as backup to a more expensive model, given its portability. The lack of AF-point illumination and the low-resolution LCD screen may put some off, but for such foibles it makes up in other areas such as the impressive focusing system. It might not be for everyone, but as a contender to Canon and Nikon's alternatives it puts up a mighty good fight.

All in all, a great camera but it’s expensive at this end of the market. If you add another hundred pounds then there are excellent mid-range DSLRs such as the Canon 500D and Nikon D5000 to choose from. However, if you want to tread the line between value, features and performance, the K-x won’t disappoint.

reghardware‘s review Edit

If you can tolerate the slow Live View autofocus and a few minor handling flaws then this camera is a near perfect choice for a first DSLR. Just be sure the firmware is up-to-date to avoid possible power issues. Overall, the K-x offers an image quality and a photographic performance to rival many higher end cameras, with the inclusion of fun and user-friendly features to satisfy the most creative of beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Macworld‘s review Edit

The K-x is a beginner-friendly SLR featuring most of the latest must-haves (and a very good choice for anyone wanting video too) but the lack of a rechargeable battery is a pain.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Still, using the camera was such fun with the HDR and Cross Processing modes, I never knew what I was going to get. Even simple photographs look great when they've been processed with a digital filter. I think if you have a few old Pentax lenses and you're looking to go to digital or feel that your work is stagnating and you need an injection of fun, you need this camera in your life.

The Pentax K-x digital SLR camera is a beginner-friendly model featuring most of the latest must-haves – and the best choice here for those wanting video too – but the lack of a rechargeable battery is a pain.

A great all-rounder with little to complain about as a stills camera. However, the video sound picks up a lot of internal noise

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Ultimately the K-x is a camera that will endeavour to provide both beginners and more experienced users with their, er, kicks. It’s an affordable, well-featured all-in-one device and very capable with it too, making it a tempting proposition for those not already wedded to a rival system due to ownership of pre-existing lenses.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

As I packed up my K-x review unit, I found myself in two minds as to whether I'd consider buying the camera myself. On the one hand, I could see it being a very useful second body to accompany my K-7 for low-light, high ISO shooting. On the flip side of the coin, for my shooting style I think the lack of AF point illumination would be hard for me to live with, and I'd prefer a lithium-ion-based camera with two control dials.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The new Pentax K-x occupies the sweet spot between the entry-level K-m and prosumer K-7 cameras, combining the ease-of-use of the former with many of the advanced features of the latter.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The K-x takes absolutely superb pictures, and that's the main thing. It handles noise well and the extended ISO range isn't just bragging on the specification sheet - there are times when it's genuinely useful.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

The Pentax K-x is a compact, beginner-friendly DSLR. Though similar in size and shape to the K2000, it shares some of the features of their pro K-7. Unique functions like in-camera HDR processing and continuous shooting up to 4.7 fps should come at a premium, but the competitively priced K-x proves itself as an excellent value.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

A fast, inexpensive dSLR with better-than-average low-light quality, the Pentax K-x nevertheless has some flaws, such as unreliable image stabilization, to watch out for.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

Breaking the boring, black D-SLR mold, the colorful Pentax K-x is the least expensive HD-video-capable D-SLR you'll find. And it takes great pictures, too, even in low light.

DP Review‘s review Edit

The K-x is a very capable little camera indeed. Pentax has managed to squeeze what is, for this class of camera, an impressive feature set into the camera's minuscule, rather inconspicuous, body and the image quality, especially in low light, is the best we have seen so far in the entry-level bracket of the DSLR market.
