Apple Mac mini Pro Reviews

reghardware‘s review Edit

Hopefully, this latest update will prove that there’s still some life left in the Mac Mini. However, it’s a shame that Apple doesn’t really take off the brakes and allow the Mini to fulfil its true potential, even at the risk of challenging the almighty iMac.

Macworld‘s review Edit

The new Mac mini models provide the most significant upgrades to the line yet, offering slightly better CPU performance, considerably improved video capabilities, increased expandability, and better wireless technology. The result is that for the first time, the Mac mini is a computer that’s truly capable of handling the iLife suite. More than ever, it’s an appealing computer for those who already have a display, keyboard, and mouse, or those looking to build a Mac system on the smallest budget (or in the smallest space).

Macworld‘s review Edit

The Mac mini continues to be a great option for those new to the Mac who already have a display, keyboard, and mouse. With the new Mac mini models, the choice is a bit more difficult. Unlike its predecessor, the new $599 model no longer requires a RAM upgrade out of the box, and it also gains a faster processor and a bit more hard-drive space.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Apple Mac mini (Late 2009) is now more compelling than ever as a compact computer – one that's built to very high standards, and includes a feature set unmatched by any other PC on any platform. Whether used as a space-saving desktop PC for the office or home, a room-friendly media centre hub or even as an office or business server, the Apple Mac mini (Late 2009) represents peerless performance at the price.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The mini's new internals bring it up to the same performance level as Apple's MacBook, and that's a good thing. It's the nettop-sized desktop that's a better alternative for many users.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

While the appearance of the case hasn't changed at all, there have been some changes around the back. It has spawned another USB port – taking the total to five. While it's always nice to have more connectivity, we can't help but complain about the practicality of having so many ports stuffed so close together. And there's still no HDMI, which makes the mini less ideal for use as a media centre, but we like having two outputs since it means that the Mac mini can now power two displays at the same time.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Apple Mac mini has huge potential, but to date, that potential has not been realised. It's the cheapest way to buy a Mac but it isn't powerful enough to appeal to switchers, and it's been shamefully under-exploited as a media centre.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Mac mini is a fantastic entry point into the world of the Apple Mac for those switching over from a PC - with existing peripherals - or for someone looking for a compact but powerful desktop computer. Given the growth of digital content and the popularity of connecting up your digital home, the Mac mini is a solid choice. It gives you the power to handle your HD content with relative ease and connectivity to match. It is perhaps a shame that Apple haven't made the move to Blu-ray yet, as a Mac mini with Blu-ray would see it as real power house.

If you’re a PC user with a spare monitor, looking to dip your toe into Mac waters, the Mini is a nice introduction to Apple computers. All others, though, should weigh this tiny PC's value versus an iMac.

In isolation the Mac mini is a fantastic entry level OS X system. Unfortunately for Apple, the latest entry level iMac is so well specced and so well priced that there are few situations where it wouldn't be a better option.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Apple Mac mini is the entry point for the Apple faithful and is a small, cheap, decent computer, but a number of low-cost nettops offer more bang for the buck, especially since they usually are priced at $150-200 less.

Gizmodo‘s review Edit

The Mac Mini is the greatest Mac that never was, always just a little too expensive and/or a little too underfeatured to be perfect. This time it's closer than ever to perfection—but still falls short.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

With strong competition among small PCs on the Windows side of the aisle, the latest Mac Mini faces a greater challenge than older models. If you demand a small, relatively affordable Mac, we suppose the Mac Mini is your only option. Otherwise, you can find Windows-based small form factor desktops that offer more interesting features with better value.
