FujiFilm FinePix Real 3D W3 Pro Reviews

ephotozine‘s review Edit

We've recently reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1 which we think takes better 3D images, but requires you to have a 3D TV to view them back on. The W3 might not be as good, but it is available for almost half the price and you can view your 3D images and videos on the screen. If you are looking to get into 3D photography, the W3 is ideal if your budget is fairly limited. With the camera being a couple of years old now, you never know, Fujifilm may release an updated version soon.

PC World‘s review Edit

If you’re dead-set on capturing 3D video and images immediately, the Finepix Real 3D W3 is your most-versatile pocketable option at the moment. Its range of 3D shooting modes and realistic 3D effects are its main drawing points, but you should make sure your 3D setup makes the most out of its images and video. At $500, it’s a significant investment. It’s not for everyone, but it is an innovative entry for consumers into the world of capturing 3D video and images.

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

FujiFilm is to be commended for introducing a twin-lens, two-CCD 3D digicam. It’s a second-generation effort, and while improvements have been made, it’s hard justifying the price (we’ve seen it for $449 at legit online dealers). For us, the Real 3D W3 is too limited to give a wholehearted endorsement, even though we really liked the Advanced 2D options.

Taking 3D photos and videos is great fun, but 3D playback options are limited and the W3 isn’t so impressive in 2D mode.

A well-built, innovative camera that can really create decent 3D images.

As it sounds, this is a camera that requires some experimentation to get the best results. The £399 manufacturer’s price tag is high, the 3D effect is still a bit of a gimmick requiring other expensive equipment, but it works well.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The FinePix Real 3D W3 is, to say the least, an interesting camera. There's no doubt that as a 3D still and video camera it works superbly, but unless you have a 3D TV to view the pictures, or can afford the remarkable but expensive 3D prints, it is really more of a clever gimmick than a useful camera. The 2D picture quality isn't as good as a conventional compact costing half as much.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

While debate rages on as to whether 3D is just a passing fad - as it was cinematically way back in the 1950s - or, thanks to technological advancements, here to stay, Fujifilm is offering a 3D capture solution in the here and now, the output from which can be enjoyed without Matrix style spectacles if using the camera's own impressive screen. For those reasonably serious about 3D capture who don't want to spend a fortune at this stage achieving it, Fujifilm's W3 presents a user friendly and relatively affordable option - particularly given the limited alternatives at present.

MacNN‘s review Edit

At $500, buyers would be better served by getting a Canon G12, Nikon P7000 or even the entry-level DSLRs that are now approaching the price range. If you're shopping within Fujifilm's own range, the F300 EXR, F80 EXR and HS10 are all good choices for day-to-day shooting. You'll miss out on 3D, but you'll be happier with more of your results and get more flexibility and control over the final shot. Being on the bleeding edge can sometimes be exciting, but with cameras like the Real 3D W3, sometimes you're just left bleeding.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Fujifilm FinePix 3D W3 is an impressive camera – far more so than its W1 predecessor. The rear LCD is wonderfully large, though framing and capturing a good 3D image is a whole different ball game to standard photography. For the non-skeptics who are already 3D-mad the W3 definitely offers the most accurate, high resolution and affordable way to make consumer-level 3D images today. It’s not without fault however: the LCD screen suffers severely from reflections, it’s very easy for fingers to stray in front of either lens, close-ups are almost impossible to shoot successfully and the bottom line is that 3D imaging won’t work nor be for everyone.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The easy-to-use Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W3 captures still images and video in 3D and is compatible with most new 3D HDTVs and computer monitors, but taking a good 3D image is challenging.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

While most will see the W3 as very niche, like the W1, there is no denying that the world of 3D has come on leaps and bounds since 2009. That means that there is a lot more supporting hardware, with the chance to actually view some of the footage you've got rather than just relying on Fujifilm's own digital photoframe and the odd monitor to make the most of your new shots.
