Nikon D90 Pro Reviews

reghardware‘s review Edit

If you’re looking for a still camera that also records some HD video, then the D90 is highly recommended. But if you’re in the market for a replacement for your camcorder, then this isn’t it. We suspect that the next new model will offer a vast improvement on video performance. But if you’re not bothered about using video too much, then don’t hang about – take a good look at the D90 today, because it’s a superb model for the serious photographer.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

All things considered, the Nikon D90 is a very capable camera. At its present asking price it offers fair value for the consumer interested in aiming their image-making sights higher.

MacNN‘s review Edit

We were very surprised by the D90’s quality, both in build and image output. It is a camera that, while tailored for the amateur market, in a professional’s hands could continue to bring home a genuine income, day in and out. The camera’s video capabilities are a plus and are definitely the wave of the future, even if it's still in a rough state.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Noise performance isn't the best on the Nikon D90, but it simply produces better colours. It also has a vast menu of features, is built really well and has the longest range kit lens. It gave good exposures in tests with varied lighting and produced a warm and bright portrait. The Nikon D90 produced the most consistent performance and that is why it wins this group test.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Overll, the Nikon D90 feels very much like a quality camera. It takes fantastic pictures, has impressive usability and generous feature set. The Nikon D90's features, performance and value are so immense that it has to be given one of our all-time highest scores.

Shutterbug‘s review Edit

The D90, while perhaps not considered a “professional” camera like its more expensive sibling the D3, is still a camera that a lot of pros will use, so it’s not surprising that it’s bristling with pro features as well as the ability to capture 24 fps (frame per second) HD movie clips complete with sound. Video image quality was impressive, especially considering it was produced with a still camera.

Despite some minor misgivings about the Nikon D90 I loved working with it and in some cases I preferred it for my professional work – the image quality is that good.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

There’s no doubt the Nikon D90 is a very impressive DSLR, but like its predecessor, it’s more about enhanced features and superior handling, rather than greatly improved image quality. Don’t get us wrong, the D90’s stills look great, but they’re not a significant step-up from 10 Megapixel models, and as you can see in our Results pages, you can achieve very similar output with the cheaper Canon EOS 450D / XSi.

If you are an amateur sports photographer looking for a light and easy to use dSLR, look no further! Following in the footsteps of the D80, the Nikon D90 is an amazing model. Not only will this camera confidently represent Nikon's mid-level dSLR offerings, but it's sure to set the tone for this category with excellent image quality, underrated burst performance, and plenty of Custom Settings. While this camera offers superb photographic abilities which professional and advanced photographers will appreciate, the simplest of users can pick this camera up and start taking great photos.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

The Nikon D90 is a feature-packed mid-range DSLR which inherits a number of aspects from the semi-pro D300, while adding some unique capabilities to deliver a highly compelling proposition. As the long-awaited successor to the popular D80, it brings that model bang up-to-date with the latest features and gadgetry.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

the D90 arrives shooting D300-quality stills and packing a decent movie mode for about two-thirds the cost of the movieless D300. If you really dissect the D90 shots they might be a tiny bit noisier at higher ISOs than the D300, or it might just be my eyes are tired. The D90 continuous shooting rate won't match the D300, but in reality, this is not a shootout between the D90 and the D300.

In use, the D90 felt extremely responsive, could lock focus quickly and confidently on virtually anything, while the meter handled almost any scene you threw at it very well, necessitating much less use of the exposure compensation function than I'm used to.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

I'm starting to feel strange about saying Nikon's done it again, but it looks like they have. The Nikon D90 looks like a genuinely excellent camera for the intermediate photographer, and a great choice as a full-featured, light weight body for those who own a Nikon D200 or D300.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The Nikon D90 is a logical progression from the D80, and covers the middle ground between the consumer models like the D40X and the new D60, and the professional models like the D300 and the D700. It has the creative versatility, performance and quality to appeal to semi-professionals and advanced hobbyists, while the scene modes, live view and the video mode will appeal to gadget lovers and the more casual user who wants a good all-rounder.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

The image quality is steady as a rock. Excellent color reproduction and superb dynamic range combined with Nikon's 3D Matrix metering ensure an outstanding DSLR. Nikon shows to be able to swiftly integrate innovations coming from the professional DSLR in the amateur market, making this segment also stand out from the crowd.

Almost exactly two years after the D80 was announced comes its replacement, the rather predictably named D90. The D80 has been one of Nikon's quiet successes, and even today, despite being positively Methuselah-like in digital camera terms it continues to sell and often makes its way into our top 10 most clicked on cameras.
