Amazon Kindle 3 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Many people will say that ereaders are no substitute for the tactile feel of real books. And there's no denying that an ereader is an expensive option. But Amazon has pushed the boundaries with the Kindle, and every other manufacturer has to play catch-up.

Amazon obviously thinks that it's got a good thing going for itself, and has made very few other changes. The new Kindle is extremely iterative, though we can get behind most of the updates its made. What's clear, however, is that if you're looking for a standalone e-reader (i.e., a portable replacement for physical books), this is the go-to, standard-setting device.

The simplicity of the Kindle has everything to please even those averse to technology: no wires, no configuring needed, no software to be installed, no computer. The design of this new Kindle pleased us both visually and functionally: the device is beautiful, practical and solid.

2010's version of the Kindle is the best current dedicated e-book reader for most casual users, if you're willing to commit to Amazon's content ecosystem.

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

The $189 Kindle 3G is an improvement over the already great Kindle 2. The combination of speed, good ergonomics, an improved display, and social sharing features all work in this eReader's favor. And the addition of Wi-Fi sweetens the pot. We don't like all of the design changes Amazon made, but overall we approve of the thinner, lighter unit. We wish the platform was more open like Barnes & Noble's Nook, which is only $10 more ($199 for 3G + Wi-Fi, $149 for Wi-Fi only), or the Kobo from Borders ($139 for Wi-Fi only). Still, Amazon's offerings are pretty robust, and the Kindle 3G offers one of the best hardware options on the market.

There are significant hardware changes to the Kindle 3 on close inspection, but the real benefits are the excellent Amazon Kindle UK store, Whispersync service and game changing price tags. Existing Kindle owners need not apply, but early adopters will be wincing at the savings now available to those who waited.

MacNN‘s review Edit

We were mostly impressed with the long list of refinements that Amazon has brought to its latest Kindle. Although the WebKit browser creeps toward tablet territory, the new Kindle helps to defend its position atop the e-book niche. The compact housing and modernized form-factor also bring a fresh look to the simple device. As a pure-blooded e-book reader, the third-generation Kindle has edged its way to the top. Potential customers who cannot live without a touchscreen interface or support for ePub files, however, may want to look elsewhere.

The latest edition's improvements aren't revolutionary, but the Amazon Kindle remains the best dedicated ebook reader on the market.

The third-generation Kindle's winning combination of noteworthy upgrades--an improved screen, better battery life, lighter weight, and lower price--vaults it to the top of the e-book reader category.

The Amazon Kindle 3 made an unusually quick, and positive, impression. The new Kindle's solid build quality, improved design, integrated store, and cross-platform transportability (books are usable on any Kindle reader app, including iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, and PC) all add up to a winner poised to top the pack.
