If you're uncertain about whether to get an AirPort Extreme, or a Time Capsule, look at it this way. An AirPort Extreme base station costs £119. The entry-level Time Capsule gives you all of the features of the base station and 500GB of built-in storage space for an additional £70.

Part wireless router and part backup drive, Apple's Time Capsule will appeal to home users, especially those using the Mac OS X Time Machine backup utility. As a router, it performed admirably, but if you're looking for full NAS functionality, there are more-robust solutions out there.

As is so often the case with Apple products, the Time Capsule’s great strength is its ease of use. Setting it up really is extremely straightforward, so it will certainly appeal to ordinary home users and businessfolk who don’t know much about networking. The speed of wireless data back-ups isn’t terribly impressive, but should be adequate for day-to-day use.
