Apple MacBook Air 13-inch Mid 2009 Pro Reviews

reghardware‘s review Edit

If you have any sense at all of the aesthetics of computing products, you have to agree that the 11.6in MacBook Air is a beautiful laptop. It's more portable than any netbook or sub-notebook, let alone 13-inchers and above. It's a real joy to use. It delivers a performance that puts other small form-factor laptops in the shade. In all these criteria, it warrants a very high rating indeed.

The MacBook Air is by no means perfect. Its performance and connectivity options are both more limited than those of conventional but heavier laptops. However, it does perform well when compared to other ultra-portable PCs in the same price bracket.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The previous generation MacBook Air was already well clear of the competition in its sleek design and uncompromised speed. With this latest 2009 update, not only has Apple made the Apple MacBook Air (Mid 2009) faster, but it’s over 30% cheaper. It comes with Mac OS X already installed, offering a virus-free and reliable platform for business or home. But for the buyer who can't forsake Microsoft Windows, a licensed copy of Windows 7 could be added to the cost, installed on the Air through Boot Camp, and you’d still have a cost-effective winner relative to other ultraportables notebooks.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Apple MacBook Air (Nvidia 9400M GT) is a specimen of unsurpassable beauty, but upgrades of a few parts internally won't be enough to win over converts to Mac.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Air is built for portability rather than power, but the new one offers more under the hood. A refreshing update for a machine that just oozes style.

It has its attractions, but the super-slim MacBook Air is felled by stronger competition this month.

To continue the TrustedReviews tradition of dubious car analogies, the MacBook Air is rather like the Noble M600. Nobody in their right mind would buy one as their sole mode of transport. But you just know that if you could afford one you couldn't help but be very tempted, no matter how ludicrous a purchase it is.

Gizmodo‘s review Edit

The MacBook Air is driving me insane. I want it like no other hardware. It's thin, yea, ok, we know this. And many power users have been bitching for more: 3G, bigger storage, more USB ports, and an internal drive. If you feel that way, this computer isn't for you. I'll go ahead and call it the most simple, focused, and beautiful laptop ever.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The design is revolutionary, but Apple's MacBook Air will appeal to a smaller, more specialized audience than the standard MacBook, thanks to a stripped-down set of connections and features.

Engadget‘s review Edit

The Air is a tough call. On the one hand it proposes to be a no-compromises ultraportable, but on the other hand it compromises many (but not all) the things road warriors want. We're all about removing unnecessary frills and drives (we rejoiced the day the original iMac bucked the floppy), but laptops are increasingly becoming many users' primary - often only - machines, which is why the Air's price doesn't do it any favors, either.

NotebookReview‘s review Edit

Apple is pushing the envelope (cough cough) with the MacBook Air ... in various ways that some people will love and others will hate. On one hand they offer a super thin, lightweight design, but on the other they take away ports and give you a permanent battery. This notebook also suffers from some early release driver quirks, but those should hopefully be resolved in the near future. Overall I think this is a promising notebook that should force some other manufacturers to wake up and design some lighter and slimmer full-size notebooks.

Gorgeous, expensive and exasperating in equal measure, and yet still desirable despite its myriad faults

PC World‘s review Edit

The MacBook Air is a product that lives on the margins. It's the slowest laptop--indeed, the slowest computer--in the Mac line. It omits many features that are standard on other Mac laptops, such as multiple USB ports, FireWire ports, an ethernet port, and an optical drive. And the latest top-of-the-line MacBook Air is actually slower than its predecessor in many of our tests. In short, the MacBook Air is an odd duck...

LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

The updated version of Apple’s strikingly thin and strong ultraportable adds plenty of graphics punch, but its battery life is too short.
