reghardware‘s review Edit

No doubt the G11 will have a tough job fending off large-sensor competitors, but shop around and you'll find it is still the best value-for-money option if you’re after a medium size compact with manual control and semi-professional output. I just wish Canon could redesign the viewfinder to make it a real image composition alternative to the LCD screen.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

With a solid construction, comprehensive feature set and manual control, as well as rangefinder-like dials, the Canon PowerShot G11 gets good results at ISO 3,200 or below. It's not cheap, however, is a little bulky and lacks HD video.

Macworld‘s review Edit

The G11 is a camera that will appeal to point-and-shoot users who are ready for more power, control, and quality, but don’t want to carry around a camera with the bulk of an SLR. SLR users, meanwhile might want to pick one up as a second camera, for times when it’s not appropriate to lug a full SLR kit.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

For the photographer who wants to go out and get quality results without the need for a full DSLR system, the G11 is perfect and I think the drop in resolution was the right way to go judging by the performance and noise tests. Images are sharp and nicely exposed and I like the fun aspect of the camera as well as the serious attributes it can bring to photography.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Overall, I was most happy with how the Canon has performed. While sitting in the middle of the road in a few areas, it prevailed in key areas such as ISO, white balance and colour control. These are the most important parts of picture taking and is why the camera has won this group test.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

Overall, the G11 works almost flawlessly, and I can't think of many improvements I'd need in a successor – apart from an accurate viewfinder. Canon again have come up trumps on the latest of the G-series, but before you rush out to buy one, make sure it's the right camera for you, I'll guarantee, if it is, you won't be disappointed with the results.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Canon G11 is a great low-light performer, and this, combined with the intelligent metering modes, AF, and generous picture presets, means that it's quite difficult to take a bad photograph with this camera. The PowerShot G11 is a very flexible compact with many power features normally associated with SLRs. There's certainly a lot to like about this camera, but its relatively high price, combined with some design and usability niggles, mean that less partisan buyers should weigh up the pros and cons before handing over £500.

Shutterbug‘s review Edit

The G11 scores high in accessibility to body (non-menu) controls for many essential field operations; a bright and readable display that really comes to the fore in low light; excellent image quality at reasonable ISO settings; live view-like settings linked to WB, exposure, and metering pattern controls; an exciting ND filter built-in; an articulating monitor that inspires unique points of view; and Raw and Raw+JPEG recording options.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

Priced exactly the same as its still current predecessor in the G10, the G11 offers the advantage of a flexible LCD screen plus higher ISO options. If neither is particularly important and a higher resolution will serve better, then the older G10 is the one to go for.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

Camera enthusiasts get more of what they expect from the Canon G-series with the Canon G11: High image quality, good lens quality, and a swiveling LCD screen. We still don't have the f/2.0 lens back, but instead we have a 5x zoom that starts at a useful wide-angle of 28mm equivalent, and has a still-respectable f/2.8 maximum aperture. The Canon G11 is built sturdily, and has excellent controls.

The G11 is DSLR-expensive, but you can't fault the pictures it takes.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

The PowerShot G11 continues Canon’s strategy for recent G-series models by essentially taking the previous version, adding a handful of new features and reinstating some from earlier classics. In the former camp, the G11 now features scene detection, new Low Light and Quick Shot modes, along with an HDMI port, while in the latter category we can finally welcome back a flip-out screen, not seen on the PowerShot G-series since the G6 back in 2004.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

Canon has taken something of a risk by reducing the sensor resolution of the PowerShot G11, but it has paid off handsomely. The G11 all of has the build quality, features and performance for which the G-series is rightly renowned, and the image quality is as good as a small-sensor compact is ever likely to get. Restored to its rightful place, the G11 is one of the two or three best compacts currently available.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Everyone’s requirements are different and the G11 does present photographers with a rather neat all-in-one solution, so there will be those thinking "so what that you can’t change the optic in use? What’s there is as much as I need".

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Though it doesn't offer the whizziest new features like an interchangeable lens or a tiny size, the Canon PowerShot G11 still delivers a good shooting experience for photography enthusiasts. Plus it's the only model that includes an optical viewfinder.

DP Review‘s review Edit

The Powershot G series has represented a fairly formidable presence at the top of the compact camera tree. From a keen photographer point-of-view, there's little on the market that can match its mixture of zoom range, lens flexibility, build quality and level of manual control.
