But priced in the region of £830 for a Core i3 model or £1,000 for the reviewed Core i5 option, the Aspire 5745DG is a lot like a 3D TV; it's more expensive than 2D alternatives, based on a seemingly-uncertain technology, and heavily reliant on available content.

Acer squeezes prices like no other PC manufacturer. If it weren't for its cellar price, the Aspire AS5745-7247 would be a competent, but ordinary desktop replacement laptop. Unlike the Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG, the Acer Aspire 5745G isn’t the best mainstream laptop for home use, nor does it have the premium feel and extensive features offered by the Dell Studio 15.

The Aspire 5745PG-354G32Mn is an excellent all-rounder and a worthy group winner. Portability may be a weak point, but the solid build quality, power and usability more than compensate.

Good performance and battery life are the highlights of this otherwise unremarkable laptop. However, for the money a larger hard drive and more RAM would have been nice, while the design and build quality are average. Overall it does the job, but there are better options available.
