When Fuji USA announced the S200EXR, they referred to the camera as a "bridge" unit offering a long zoom and excellent image quality without the bulk associated with the DSLR and its interchangeable lenses. They then went on to say users of the S200 would find their results "equal or superior to" DSLRs.

While a brighter lens would be desirable it would push the price far too high, however, this camera has some neat tricks to compensate in different environments. Nevertheless, the sort of user the S200EXR really suits is the nature and landscape photographer who’ll tend to have sufficient available light to avoid high ISO settings and too much reliance on image stabilisation. Indeed, the convenience of not having to carry multiple lenses shouldn’t be overlooked.

I can't argue the image quality, it's very good and I think in the right hands, it'll produce sterling images. At the current price, it's a bit steep compared to other cameras on the market but bear in mind that it's innovative technology and there's a lot more features on it. If you're looking for a camera that can reproduce images that remind you of the heady days of film, then this is the camera to get.

Fujifilm has once again produced a superb feature-packed super-zoom camera that sets new standards for image quality and versatility, providing more control than most entry-level DSLRs. As a hobby photographer's camera the S200EXR is in a class of its own, and at its current price it's outstanding value for money.

So does the Fujifilm S200EXR offer pretty much all that a DSLR does, whilst saving the need to swap lenses or invest in additional optics? No, but it gets a fair degree of the way there, the combination of Super CCD EXR sensor and bolted-on Fujinon branded lens delivering an impressive degree of sharpness under most conditions.

The Fuji FinePix S200 EXR is an innovative new Super-Zoom digicam that features a newly designed imaging sensor and processor that allows the camera to capture outstanding images. Keep in mind that the special shooting modes, which produce the best photos, only produce a 6-Megapixel image instead of a 12-Megapixel image.
