ASUS G73JH Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

With a Full HD display, dual 500GB hard disks, Blu-ray and gaming capabilities, it’s no surprise that the G73Jh is expensive. Our main concern is with the questionable build quality of the keyboard, but with a two-year warranty you can have some peace of mind on that front.

The Asus G73JH-BST7 laptop has the hardware where it counts, and packages it all in a design that was clearly created with the serious gamer in mind. For the price, it's a powerful machine.

Keep in mind, while looking at our benchmarks that we ran every game with every setting maxed out to see how well the G73 could handle them. Ideally, it would have ran through every test without a hiccup, but that wasn't always the case.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

Available for just under £1,650, ASUS's G73JH notebook isn't cheap, but you do get a lot of bang for your buck. The ability to run the latest games with little sacrifices in image quality is a huge boon, and ASUS's Republic of Gamers bundle - which includes a gaming mouse, a SteelSeries Siberia headset and a RoG backpack - makes it a complete mobile gaming solution. An enjoyable 17.3in display provides vivid Blu-ray visuals, and the internal triumvirate - a Core i7 processor, Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics and 8GB of DDR3 memory - ensures there's plenty of power on tap for most usage scenarios. If there's a chink in the notebook's admittedly-awesome armour, it's the hard-to-press trackpad buttons and the short-lived battery life.

At the end of the day, if you look at the ASUS G73JH-A1 and compare it to all of the machines I have tested overall, this gaming notebook is in the top five consistently in all but battery life. When we buy a gaming notebook, we simply have to look the other way when it comes to battery life.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

The G73 has some appeal though – the velvety matt black exterior looks great, as does the self-assured, Lamborghini-style design. The sleek keyboard is comfortable to use, the screen is large and clear, and the ports are logically spaced around the sides. However, in this configuration, the G73 just isn’t a sensible purchase.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

The short story is that while the G73Jh isn't without competition, it's easily the best bang for the buck among current gaming laptops. There are a few flaws like missing features - if you want FireWire, eSATA, USB3, or ExpressCard you'll need to go elsewhere. We also would have liked a Blu-ray combo drive, although it sounds like that will be available with other models (it should add ~$100 to the price). I'm sure opinions on the aesthetic are going to be highly polarized as well. Like most gaming laptops, the G73Jh is quite large, but it makes no apologies for its size and it manages to do a lot with the added girth.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

The main argument for the G73JH still is the combination of first-class gaming performance and a pleasant system noise level, which remains agreeably discreet in the background even while surfing on the internet or rendering movies. This is an issue where many gaming alternatives often fail.

The Asus G73Jh is an excellent desktop replacement gaming laptop. It offers sleek and rugged good looks, comfortable ergonomics, whisper-quiet operation, very good specs for the price and an above-average aural and visual experience. Best of all, thanks to the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 it uses, it performs admirably in games. It's not quite the perfect gaming laptop, but it's a damn good one and just sneaks a recommendation.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

We like the G73JH a lot. It's a great looking and uniquely designed machine that provides stunning performance, but for those who are watching the pennies at the moment – a lot of us – a similar experience – albeit with not quite as much style – can currently be found for cheaper elsewhere.

The Asus ROG G73Jh laptop doesn't need any gimmicks to attract gamers; just its performance lends it real credibility. But you don't have to be a gamer to be enticed by the speedy processor and big screen.

The ASUS G73Jh Gaming Notebook is perfect for the gamer that likes to travel to the local LAN party, but doesn't want to mess with the hassle of transporting and setting up a desktop gaming rig. The inclusion of the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 GPU in the G73Jh brings top of the line performance at an affordable price with a great design worthy of our Innovation Award!

The ASUS G73JH is a phenomenal gaming notebook and a fantastic value. It has more than enough power to handle any modern game while remaining quiet and cool to the touch. The keyboard is pleasant to type on and the screen is beautiful. The G73JH has strong build quality and the stealth-like design is unique. Other than a few minor quibbles with the touchpad, we found very little to dislike and highly recommend the G73 to gamers and multimedia enthusiasts alike.

Asus is making a completely fresh start with the G73; a new design, matt surfaces, an improved cooling system and a DirectX 11 capable graphics card (the HD 5870) all go to make up this 17.3-inch gaming hot-shot.
