Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 Pro Reviews

reghardware‘s review Edit

It’s not much cheaper than an entry-level DSLR, but if you prefer a touchscreen compact that is brimming with features, then this is worth a good look. And if you're not too fussed about the colour, you can find this Cyber-shot at quite a discount, if you shop around.

Luxury like this doesn’t come cheap, but if dependable photo quality is good enough, the TX7’s other talents are worth splashing out on.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The main negatives with regard to the Sony Cyber-shot TX7 are a short-ish battery life, a screen that quickly becomes smeared with fingerprints, a lens location that means it's all too easy for digits to drift into shot, occasional camera shake, and, er, that's about it.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

The Sony DSC-TX7 is a delight to use. It's solidly constructed for such a small, thin camera and has a beautiful appearance. It's a very quick performer and has a slick and functional touchscreen interface. I really enjoyed trying all the cool features, especially the sweep panorama mode, and I predict that a year from now, all new cameras being released (except those at the lower end of the price scale) will have this very useful function.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

The Cyber-Shot DSC-TX7 is a powerful ultra-compact that is loaded with Sony's "best" technologies and the price reflects that. It boasts good image quality, robust performance, and plenty of intelligent exposure options.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

Sleek in both design and finish, the Sony TX7 takes a little ingenuity to hold and operate. There are no surfaces to grip so you'll need to practice your thumb/forefinger "pinch" to hold onto the camera. Your right forefinger will be in position to operate the tiny zoom lever at the edge of the top right surface. Definitely use the bundled wrist strap or a lanyard to keep the camera from slipping out of your hands.

A capable stills camera, plus video quality that competes with dedicated camcorders

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The fast-shooting Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a slick, feature-laden ultracompact, but its price doesn't guarantee perfection.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

Despite some comfort issues with its design, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a capable of capturing vibrant colours and deep blacks, and its high ISO performance is not too bad either. It will suit travellers who want a hybrid camera with which to take high-def video as well as still photos. It's worth noting that Sony has finally warmed to the SD card format; this camera has a slot that can accommodate both SD and Memory Stick Pro DUO formats.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a slim compact with a large touch-screen display and a number of unique features. The optical zoom may have an average 4x total range, but starts at a very useful and very wide 25mm equivalent, and can also be adjusted while you film videos. Speaking of movies, the TX7 also boasts nothing less than Full HD 1080i capabilities, when most rivals are still satisfied with 720p.

Sony’s pocket-sized DSC-TX7 shoots high quality video comparable to many camcorders, along with stunning 10-megapixel stills.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

In short, the TX7 does what it does well; compact it certainly is, but within the limits that small size places on the design and handling; ditto the touchscreen and its (easily lost) stylus or "paint pen", so called as it is designed for use with the camera's accompanying paint software. However, we were left liking the TX7 for both its simplicity of use and the camera's "Why go into the menus? There's not much to control anyway" ethos. That and its natty Sweep and iAUTO modes as well as the impressive HD movie capture make it a nice little compact.
