Apple and Google aren't the only companies looking to patent and trademark everyone's favorite gesture to unlock a smartphone, as Nokia has recently been granted a patent on its own implementation of slide-to-unlock.
Unlike Apple's patent, which covers a horizontal motion from one side of the screen to another along a pre-defined path, Nokia's patent involves sliding an icon across the screen that will reveal an otherwise hidden app. Slide the icon far enough and the app icon comes into view, and the app will launch once the icon is fully covering it. »read more
