Nokia Siemens drops WiMax business, NewNet picks it up

Nokia Siemens Networks is selling its WiMax business to NewNet Communication Technologies, in a further sign that the long-term future is not looking too bright for WiMax in Europe and the States. NewNet didn't disclose details of the deal, but expects to close it out by the end of the year and take on around 300 employees. The company said it was interested in providing WiMax infrastructure on a global basis, but Nokia Siemens clearly didn't consider the technology a priority in its restructuring efforts — especially with an LTE Lumia 800 likely making its way to the US next year. »read more
