expertreviews‘s review Edit

Fantastic build quality, good battery life, a vibrant display, and superbly functional software make the Legend the best value smartphone currently available.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The HTC Legend is a lovely handset. It is let down only by suspect battery life, but all smartphones seem to suffer in this department at present. If you are a particularly heavy user you may need to give it a small top-up charge during the day as well as a longer charge once a day.

Are there other Android devices on the market that are more powerful? Yes. However, when looking at the Legend as the successor to the HTC Hero (which is what it is), it puts it into perspective.

The HTC Legend is the most robust HTC handset running the Android OS version. Its Sense UI interface makes it easy, intuitive, and even fun to use. It is one of the most practical smartphones available, which will make it highly appreciated among frequent users.

Call quality was fine, but the battery life is a real let down. We barely got through a half day of reviewing work between charges. That meant having Wi-Fi on and in use a fair bit of the time, playing music, browsing the Web using 3G, using Google Maps and more. Admittedly this is probably a fairly intensive usage pattern. But we think a semi-heavy user may find the HTC Legend can’t get from morning to night without a battery boost.

Engadget‘s review Edit

It's safe to say that HTC's broken yet another mold with the Legend, stunning the world with both its hardware and software design. There's no question about the unibody's toughness, and many other features we've seen here are of significant improvements over the Hero, namely the AMOLED screen (in general), FM radio, optical trackpad (debatable), still camera and the new goodies plus performance boost in Sense UI. Sure, there are major flaws in the battery life and video recording performance.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

Nonetheless, even if it remained as it is today, the HTC Legend is an impressive device. It no longer occupies the top-spot in HTC’s Android range but it’s arguably more attractive and pocket-friendly than its sibling. Held up to the mid-range devices it’s being positioned against, the Legend feels a step up in build quality and design;

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

If you're someone that doesn't really care massively about apps or gets irritated by a day-long battery life, we couldn't recommend this phone more. The HTC Legend is not quite the phone to persuade the masses Android is finally an adequate iPhone replacement - but it's awfully, awfully close.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The HTC Legend may lack the extra-large screen of the flagship HTC Desire, but the unibody aluminium casing is a superb piece of industrial design. The Legend is an excellent smartphone and a solid improvement over its predecessor.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

With its design improvements and feature enhancements, the HTC Legend is a worthy upgrade from the Hero and one of the most solid and well-built Android phones we've seen in its class. We can only hope that a North American version is released soon.

Register Hardware‘s review Edit

Potentially the best Android handset around, but the rather poor battery life will frustrate the very users it was designed for.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

The HTC Legend has the tough task of filling the shoes of what was considered the best Android handsets. What makes this task even harder is the fact that the Hero lost its top-shelf status just before its successor was announced.

If your main criteria is to hop on to the Android bandwagon and have no real preference in this mid to high-end tier of phones, you should take a close look at the competition as well as the HTC Legend to see what fits your needs most as it is a close call between them.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The HTC Legend has the looks and offers the type of user experience that will turn heads, without a doubt. It takes what the HTC Hero started and continues, offering a compact device with plenty of power and an interactive experience that sets the pace for smartphone manufacturers to follow. A year on and HTC Sense is still great fun, but becoming slightly less unique.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The HTC Legend is undoubtedly our favourite Android phone so far. Its screen looks amazing and is responsive, it's packed with features, and of course that aluminium chassis is something to behold. So if you're a fan of Android already and you're looking for a smaller and potentially cheaper device then it's an easy recommendation.

MobileBurn‘s review Edit

The HTC Legend is certainly worthy of its name, and offers a worthwhile upgrade to its predecessor, the HTC Hero. The aluminium unibody and AMOLED display alone are worth the upgrade, not to mention the slightly faster processor, upgraded UI, bigger battery, and optical joystick. It's an altogether improved package and shows how fast HTC have progressed in less than a year. It's certainly my favourite HTC Android handset so far, but that's likely to change again when the new HTC Desire arrives soon.

Now, let’s find out whether the novelty features of the device turn a truly capable Android handset into an excellent one…

SlashGear‘s review Edit

Specifications-wise, the Legend marks some key changes over the Hero and some points where we wish HTC had been a little more forthright. The Legend has a 3.2-inch HVGA display, like the Hero, but this time around it’s an AMOLED panel rather than LCD. Similarly, there’s a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, but now it has an LED flash. Where the Hero used a 528MHz chipset, the Legend gets Qualcomm’s 600MHz MSM7227; a speed increase, yes, but short of the 1GHz Snapdragon on the Google Nexus One and HTC’s own Desire.
