With an excellent keyboard and a strong set of enterprise features, the Bold 9650 is ideal for business users—even though it is lacking a bit in the innovation department.

The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is a nice addition to RIM's CDMA lineup. Strong signal strength, combined with decent battery life and international capabilities will make for a great device for any individual that travels regularly. Despite that, it's more of a revision than it is an upgrade, so if you're using a Tour 9630, Curve 8500 series, or Bold 9700, the Bold 9650 isn't anything new. What's more, at $199.99, it runs a dangerous risk of being flanked by the EVO 4G and iPhone 3GS.

It's true that RIM hit the mark with the BlackBerry Bold 9650. Unfortunately, that mark wasn't very high. As a messaging-centric device, the Bold is great. However, being a great messaging device isn't enough anymore to capture the consumer end of the market. As competition from Android and other platforms becomes stronger, RIM needs to innovate and add something truly unique to the experience in order to stay relevant.

Phone Scoop‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry 9650 is one of those phones that gets nearly everything right and has minimal quirks or other problems. The hardware is top notch; it feels great to hold and interact with. It is a little weighty, and I wish the screen were bigger, but die-hard BlackBerry fans will likely be forgiving of these issues.

MobileBurn‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is, no doubt, the best BlackBerry on Verizon Wireless or Sprint; but it's not the best smartphone. I'm a big BlackBerry fan myself and use them regularly, and the best hardware aspects of a Blackberry these days are their awesome keyboards and good battery life. Verizon Wireless throws in a solid data network and top-notch call quality as well. That's enough for many people.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Just like the Sprint version, the RIM BlackBerry Bold 9650 for Verizon brings an update to the carrier's BlackBerry Tour. It's not a major overhaul but brings some nice enhancements, including Wi-Fi, double the onboard memory, and an optical touchpad, to make it a worthwhile upgrade.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

Sprint's latest BlackBerry update is a reliable and respectable messaging phone, but it just doesn't have any "wow" features.
