expertreviews‘s review Edit

A big upgrade from previous Pearl models, the Pearl 3G has fast wireless and data connections, but a numeric keypad and small screen let it down

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Pearl 3G is a great upgrade from a texting phone, but you're paying a lot for a device with no touch screen or QWERTY keyboard, and relatively few apps.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

If there is one target audience that the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G is targeting, then it's none other than entry-level users looking to move up to a smartphone. Naturally, the Pearl 3G perfectly fills the gap in making the transition smooth and without over-complicating things. The updated looking handset is definitely a sight for sore eyes, especially when it's more than over due at this point, but there isn't anything too eye catching with it to catapult it over the competition.

The 9105 is a nice little addition to Blackberry's consumer-friendly Pearl range. But while I'm happy to see the trackpad replace the trackball, the improved camera and processor, and pleased that the addition of 3G connectivity hasn't affected the size of the device. Yet I really don't see the advantage of replacing the SureType keypad with a standard numeric type, the only advantage of which, is to offer a BlackBerry which doesn't look like a BlackBerry.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G is an excellent phone with some brilliant messaging, media and connectivity features. For us, however, the keyboard is a real drawback, especially since email and web address entry meant we routinely needed the full stop and @ signs, neither of which are default characters on the keypad.

MacNN‘s review Edit

The Pearl has always occupied an unusual place in the BlackBerry line, if not the whole smartphone world: it's a smartphone for those who hate smartphones and the according price tags. With the Pearl 3G, though, RIM has blurred the line even further by packing 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi and even a high-resolution display into a phone no larger than a free-on-contract candybar. It's very promising, but we'll see in our BlackBerry Pearl 3G review if that amounts to a serious threat.
