LG New Chocolate BL40 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

There's no doubting that the wide screen is a real lure, but it has its shortcomings, largely due to its narrowness. You might want to give this phone a thorough trying out before you buy.

The BL40 is from LG’s ‘Chocolate’ range of phones, designed to offer greater sophistication than a run-of-the-mill handset. The LG also has a 5MP camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as A2DP stereo Bluetooth connectivity. File compatibility includes MP3, AAC+ and WMA9. Videos viewed on the 345 x 800 resolution screen look good, even when 16:9 content is stretched. Colours are lush, movement is handled well and edge definition is on a par with the best phones around.

reghardware‘s review Edit

As a style phone, LG's New Chocolate BL40 looks the part and it's encouraging to see that it’s also a step or two removed from the ubiquitous iPhone and its clones. Various tweaks mean it's the easiest to use S-Class device so far, and that gorgeous screen is great for watching video, even if it feels a bit weird and letterboxy when browsing the web. Still, the battery life was disappointing and the syncing software really needs an overhaul. If you can live with those shortcomings, then LG’s New Chocolate could be worth a taste.

mobileengadget‘s review Edit

The BL40 is an excellently constructed, well thought out machine that fills our sex appeal box to the top. Where we found LG's watchphone lacking that extra bit of pizzazz to make it compelling, the BL40's design exudes just the right amount of eccentricity and flair to make it an aesthetically drool-worthy device. Regrettably, its beauty is mostly skin deep, as it's let down by an overly ambitious and inconsistent user experience.

Softpedia‘s review Edit

It seems that the New Chocolate is an important step forward for LG, which gathered all its high-end technologies and included them in a device that should rock our world. It has an unusual form, it looks exquisite (when it's not dirty), it's an all-rounder when it comes to features and it's not expensive at all.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

LG's Chocolate BL40 boasts excellent build quality and a flashy, if unconventional, design. The interface does have its issues and the oddly-shaped design does take a while to grasp, but it has plenty of features.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The LG BL40 Chocolate is a great and bold step to be admired. There are some gripes to be had, mostly with the OS and battery life, but they're minor in the grand scheme of things. The phone will certainly appeal to those who want to make a statement with their mobile and aren't afraid to use a little bit of tech now and again. If you can get your head around the multiple camera modes, are willing to fork out for a bigger memory card, want to watch a bit of video and are happy to learn to navigate the internet in a new fashion, then this phone should definitely be on your watch list when it comes time to renew your contract.

Packed with features and an impressive super-wide screen, but undermined by unresponsiveness and woeful battery life

LG's fourth Black Label device, the LG BL40 Chocolate, is one of those things that you can never ignore - if not for its sexy looks, then for its unusual elongated form factor. We check out how the Chocolate that neither melts in your mouth, nor in your hand fares in our full review.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

If you have never used an LG phone, then make sure you try the BL40 out in the shops for a good 10 minutes before you decide it's the one for you. A quick blast around the front of the UI and a go on the browser should be enough to find out whether you're going to get on with it or not. If you do, congratulations on a fantastic new phone with all the good looks and features you could want on a mobile.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The LG BL40 Chocolate is a stunning phone in terms of hardware design. It's solid glass front, long and slim profile and superb quality screen all combine to make a device that is nice to hold and look at. It also does all the basics without issue. However, a smartphone this certainly isn't and, compared to phones of a similar price, its severely lacking in some areas.

LG is back showing off a new flavor of its Chocolate handset, the BL40. The minimalistic touchscreen phone features a 4.0-inch super-wide cinematic display for improved web navigation and content viewing and offers users LG's new S-class user interface.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

It was handsets like the original Chocolate that put LG on the map. But simply playing with the big boys was never going to be enough. It takes creativity to outsmart and outdo some formidable rivals. LG never shied away from experimenting and have been repaid more often than not. There’s Black Label and Prada, some great cameraphones and a host of capable touchscreen devices to prove it.
