Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Pro Reviews

GSMArena‘s review Edit

So where does the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 stand after the update? It didn’t quite manage to take over at the top of the smartphone food chain, but to be honest we never actually expected it to. One year is a really long time in this business and understandably competitors haven’t been standing still. So as a result you get a device that won’t give you bragging rights but will give you all that it promises and throw in a few nice surprises on top (particularly for video enthusiasts and social network lovers). Sounds like a package that’s good enough for us.

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The Xperia X10 is Sony Ericsson's first Android handset, and it's got all the features you'd expect from a potential iPhone rival: a 4in, 480x854 resolution screen, an 8.1-megapixel camera with an LED flash, auto-focus and facial recognition, and a customised interface with social aggregation software.

Macworld‘s review Edit

Despite its beefy 1GHz Snapdragon processor, the X10 was consistently sluggish as I went through the X10’s various apps and menus. Scrolling through Timescape, for example, was sometimes excruciatingly slow. In addition, launching certain applications took a bit more time than I expected. And in one odd instance, the keyboard completely froze while I was using it to log in to my Google account. I ended up having to close, kill, and restart the app. Opening apps sometimes took multiple taps, and even the swiping to unlock the phone wasn’t always as responsive as it should have been.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

The appearance of the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro are definite proof of the company's Android strategy, but before they do focus their attention on these two smaller offerings, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will have a few things to prove. Aesthetically speaking, its straight-on flat surface with curves running along its sides, while the rear portrays a fine balance of sophistication and build quality. The human curvature design does fit into the palm nicely, if you have a sizeable hand to grasp the X10 and its 4-inch capacitive touchscreen. What we do we bemoan is the lack of a physical Search button which could speed up the process of a contact or file search within the X10.

reghardware‘s review Edit

Overall, the X10 is well worth a look, if only to gawp at its huge and impressive screen, albeit a little let down by insensitivity at times. While it doesn't have the latest version of Android either – and the processor's occasional struggles were a bit of a worry too – it does have just about the best camera you'll find on an Android phone.

Engadget‘s review Edit

The X10's input problems alone would unfortunately be enough to turn us away from the phone within a few days' use - we just write way too much email and way too many text messages to deal with a situation like that - but it feels like these guys are just a few minor tweaks away from a great custom platform that pairs rather beautifully with a phone that easily goes toe-to-toe with the Nexus One.

Sony Ericsson's first Android phone will go on sale in the first quarter of next year, and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a stylish, feature-rich phone.

Macworld‘s review Edit

After spending some time with the Xperia X10, I have mixed feelings. Though I loved the phone's hardware, the software was buggy and slow at times. And faced with shortcomings such as the absence of multitouch and the omission of an Android 2.0 upgrade, I can't recommend the X10 over other high-end Android phones, like the Motorola Droid and the Google Nexus One.

Geeky Gadgets‘s review Edit

Overall considering that the Xperia X10 is Sony Ericsson’s first smarpthone to feature Google’s Android OS, I would say they have done a pretty good job. The only downside to the Xperia X10 is that it comes with Android 1.6 and not Android 2.1.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

We expected a lot from the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. On paper it has one of the most impressive specifications of any modern smartphone. However, in reality it falls well short. Failing on basics like using a plastic screen, instead of glass, and having poor touchscreen accuracy are just unforgivable at this level. And when you add in software tweaks that add little to its overall usability you have a phone that sits well down the league table of top Android-based smartphones.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

There was a sense, back in November 2009, that had Sony Ericsson released the XPERIA X10 shortly after its announcement then it could have captured the Android market, for a time at least. In the intervening months, however, rivals have sliced away at the X10’s potential lead; there are devices with screens almost as large (the Samsung Galaxy S and of course the HTC EVO 4G) and social networking aggregation that, while graphically different, is functionally pretty much the same. It’s also moved Android 1.6 further away from the most current OS release. Nonetheless, the XPERIA X10 remains a strong competitor.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Xperia X10 is a great phone at its core, with some great use of the Android operating system to push this phone up into the stellar smartphone category at times. However, there are some things we're less impressed with, and can only hope that Sony Ericsson gets to work fixing them before too long.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 offers a slick, user-friendly design with a solid feature set and good call quality. Data performance was uneven, however, and the Timescape application and keyboard miss some details.

phonedog‘s review Edit

The XPERIA X10 has a few quirks and issues that could prove frustrating to experienced smartphone users. That being said, most of the problems I encountered could be fixed with software updates, and since Sony Ericsson has committed to providing updates on an ongoing basis, we could see them resolved over time. At any rate, the X10 is going to be one of those love or hate devices.

The Android-based Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has attracted a great deal of attention with its very large, high-resolution display and 1 GHz processor.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Packed with the tech specs to make it look good on paper, unfortunately the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 doesn't measure against its lesser-specced rivals. Unless the X10 can plug some of these holes, we can't promise that the X10 will deliver an experience on par with the rest of the pack.

MobileBurn‘s review Edit

From the first time I ever saw the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 in person, I thought it was a beautiful device spoiled by weak software. My experiences over the past couple of weeks with this latest pre-production device haven't changed my mind at all. Pretty to look at, pretty annoying to use.

A truly stunning screen, and Sony Ericsson’s Timescape software has some appeal – but the Xperia X10 needs Android 2 to make it shine.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

If it feels like it’s a long time since we first saw the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, that’s because it really has been. First announced back in November 2009, and only now approaching the market, the X10 runs the risk – like other Sony Ericsson smartphones, it has to be said – of making promises that prove underwhelming by the time it delivers on them. With handsets like the Nexus One already on the market, is there still a place for the XPERIA X10?

In terms of software, the manufacturer introduces several novelty ideas via Timescape and Mediascape. So, is the combination of hardware and software a proper blend of features? GSMArena‘s review Edit

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is one of the hottest names in the industry and it's not even released yet. Santa won't be able to get us one for Christmas but next year holds a serious promise for us geeks. The Sony Ericsson's first Snapdragon device and first Android smartphone is one seriously capable handset that promises great user experience.
