RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 Pro Reviews

Digital Trends‘s review Edit

Although the Bold 9700 lacks the frills of an iPhone or Palm Pre, for utilitarian business users, it’s one of the most polished smartphones on the market today.

A smart, well-made phone with top business credentials, the Bold 9700 can be a pain to set up correctly, and doesn't offer a large screen or a wide variety of apps

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 updates the original Bold nicely with a sleeker physical design, optical trackpad and boosted camera among its new fixtures and fittings. It isn't the most capable smartphone, but it is potentially a good choice for those who want to mix business and pleasure.

ubergizmo‘s review Edit

The Blackberry 9700 is the best Blackberry out there. I have a preference for the T-Mobile version because it has UMA support (Hotspot@Home) and that's simply awesome, especially for the international traveler (big roaming charges savings!). I use the 9700 as my main phone for a simple reason: I need it to work efficiently. Not only the physical keyboard works very well, but the email app is also excellent, especially when you know the shortcuts. The 9700 also takes good pictures, and that can be important as we all tend to upload and share photos in quasi real-time.

reghardware‘s review Edit

A slimmer and sharper looking number than the original Bold, this svelte candybar is a nicely compact pocketful. Having the keyboard on the front allows it to be slimmer than any slide-out, and Blackberry's optical trackpad, which recently replaced the trackball, is a winner. You can set it to the sensitivity level you require and it'll have you whizzing around the menus with ease.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Bold 9700 is a smart, shrewd update to the wildly popular Bold 9000 - and proof that there's still a place for hardware QWERTY keyboards for both consumers and business.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

A slimmer, lighter Bold than the original model, we like the substitution of the trackball for the touchpad and think this BlackBerry line remains the most appealing that RIM offers. Time will tell whether qwerty keypad fans find the BlackBerry Bold 9700's shrunken keypad an issue, however. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is a good-looking smartphone with a tremendous range of features. Highly recommended.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Bold 2 9700 is certainly a very good device, building on everything we've come to expect from the Canadian firm. We liked a lot of things on the BlackBerry Bold 2 9700 and that's not just because the phone is a high end BlackBerry.

Though Web browsing is not its forte, the RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 is one of the most powerful and best messaging smartphones in AT&T's lineup.

With any revision comes a list of improvements that make the device better than its predecessors, and the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is no exception. If you're happy with the Bold 9000's size, older OS, battery life, and trackball, then you may not see a need to upgrade to the Bold 9700 when it launches in November. What I will tell anyone who's willing to listen is that I do see enough of an improvement in this device to warrant an upgrade from the original model.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 - sometimes called the Bold2 - sports an HVGA screen, keyboard, Wi-Fi, 3G and more. Shaun Mahal says this device's enhanced feature set and improved design leaves the original Bold looking out of date.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

When we reviewed the BlackBerry Bold 9000 we said it had everything a BlackBerry fan could want, except for maybe the more compact body of the Curve. And it's pretty obvious that someone over at RIM has been paying attention. They've done exactly that. And no, we're not taking credit, just giving it.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

The Bold 9700 has both its ups and downs. If you focus upon its aesthetic nature, those who wished for a more compact and comfortable form factor will welcome the Bold 9700 with arms (or maybe hands) wide open. Still, we figured that there'll be others like ourselves who find the smaller keyboard to be a minor issue. The typing experience will be slightly compromised, but we are thankful that the Bold 9700 retains the same raised design for each keys, albeit in a smaller form.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 feels like the last step in an evolution of devices, bringing together the form factor from the Curve 8900 with the tech specs of the original Bold. It brings with it the two key elements that BlackBerry users love: an excellent keyboard with which to abuse BlackBerry's excellent email service.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The Blackberry Bold 9700 may not have quite the distinctive style of the Bold 9000 but in every other sense it's a worthy successor. It's well made, feels nice in the hand, has a great screen and keyboard, and the new optical trackpad is at least equal to the outgoing trackball. So, if you can get it for the right price, we wholeheartedly recommend you go for it.

Softpedia‘s review Edit

Blackberry Bold 9700 is supposed to be the latest smartphone coming from RIM, but the fact that it doesn't impress on any aspect puts a question mark on BB's management. Moreover, the leap from Blackberry 4.x version to 5.0 has been almost unnoticeable in terms of design and utility tools. Nothing changed too much, apart from some tweaks and upgrades that have long ago been included by the rest of the smartphone manufacturers.
