RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 has a wide screen with a full QWERTY keyboard beneath and a clever trackpad button that senses your thumb's movement. The keypad has the usual BlackBerry layout, with buttons that have enough travel and make a clear click when pressed. They're a bit small for some thumbs, but thumbnails work just as well.

The price is down there with the BlackBerry Pearl, but this is a full-fledged Qwerty BlackBerry, which, combined with its email, IM and social networking support, make it an ideal messaging device – although we'd have preferred 3G for when we're out of Wi-Fi coverage. Still, the fast processor, beautifully executed optical trackpad and slim, lightweight body are all worth considering for first-timers entering the BlackBerry world.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

All in all, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone is an impressive piece of telephonic gadgetry for the money. We've yet to have a chance to test out its battery life but based on all the other BlackBerry handsets we've tried, expect it to be unfazed bv being in standby for a period of two weeks and then springing into action again. We'd love a better resolution camera and, if we're honest, will be scampering back to the iPhone for its superior web experience. The omission of 3G doesn't feel like a big deal, however. For a £200 phone or £25 on contract, though, this is a superb smartphone that we unstintingly recommend.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Curve 8520's powerful messaging abilities and slick trackpad are well worth the entry price - just make sure you live in an area with solid T-Mobile coverage.

Softpedia‘s review Edit

If I would be someone that uses RIM services and I would need to buy myself a Blackberry, I would definitely avoid buying Curve 8520. I mean, I'm a businessman that needs to buy a device that can offer me the best of the best and if I have the money to buy for RIM's services, then I should have the money to buy a much better device than 8520. Besides the fact that the Curve 8520 misses lots of features that you get in more advanced Blackberries, you cannot use its messaging capabilities unless you have a Blackberry subscription plan.

MobileCrunch‘s review Edit

It’s a budget BlackBerry that skimps on aesthetics, but manages to offer a lot of “must have” features that BlackBerry users have become accustomed to from other devices.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Overall, the Curve 8520 is a nice little handset. It's a shame that some of the materials used aren't of a higher standard, but it offers good usability and a cheap entry point into RIM's impressive BlackBerry range.

We like the media playback controls, we like the ambition of producing a low-cost BlackBerry, but until the Curve 8520 drops in price there’s too much competition for us to recommend it

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 is a sleek entry-level smartphone that delivers some nice design enhancements and great performance. While available directly from T-Mobile, Wal-Mart offers the better value on the smartphone.

phonedog‘s review Edit

Despite its budget status, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 appeals to a group not previously served by RIM. It may not be the Bold or Tour, but with phenomenal battery life and superior PIM functionality, the 8520 provides the typical BlackBerry experience. Those that type on a regular basis or rely on the camera may want to take a look at the device in store, but overall, we welcome the Curve 8520 to the BlackBerry family.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is a recently-released smartphone from T-Mobile USA. As the latest device in the Curve series, its hardware and software has been updated, and it offers a greater focus on consumers with mobile access to email and social networking sites, plus music and video.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Engineered to a price point perhaps seems a little too clinical an expression, but with the BlackBerry Curve 8520 available on Vodafone (for example) for free on a £25 a month contract (for 24 months), that's no bad thing. In fact, it's excellent value for money for what is one of the best mobile email services and mobile keyboards available, and we suspect upgraders could get an even better deal.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The BlackBerry Curve 8250 is certainly a little light on features, with 3G and GPS the most serious omissions, but the phone still manages to rise above these limitations. It's the combination of its excellent email features, long battery life and easy to use interface that make it so likeable and as a result we think it's a good choice for those who want more than a standard mobile, but haven't got the cash to go the iPhone or HTC Hero route.

MobileBurn‘s review Edit

The recently launched BlackBerry Curve 8520 for T-Mobile offers most of the 8900's appeal, but in a slightly less expensive package. It also is the first BlackBerry to feature the optical trackpad controller.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Traditionally RIM has catered to the higher end, but with their push into the consumer market the need for an entry level model was inevitable. Meet the Curve 8520. It offers a good form factor, solid but average specs and the wonderful QWERTY that RIM has been known for.
