Palm Pre GSM Pro Reviews

HotHardware‘s review Edit

While the Palm Pre probably won’t kill the iPhone (that’s a pretty tall order to fill), it is a worthy competitor that offers some very cool features and puts Palm back in the smartphone game. Overall, we ended up impressed with the new webOS and Pre smartphone and look forward to additional webOS devices and handsets from Palm in the future.

Macworld‘s review Edit

All things considered, the Pre is actually a pretty good phone. Despite my mostly minor gripes, it’s got a pretty slick operating system, a boatload of features, and it’s very usable. Not all the pieces are in place yet, but like all of the other smart phones, it’s a work in progress. It’s not perfect, but it’s certainly a worthy device, and most people coming from a non-smart phone will rightfully see it as a huge upgrade.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Palm Pre is the sexiest handset since the iPhone - and it also marks the dawn of a major new smartphone platform. Although it lacks third-party apps and has some battery life issues, it's much more fun than any other phone Sprint offers.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

There’s plenty to like about the Palm Pre. It’s a compact, attractive handset that doesn’t allow its relatively small display to get in the way of intuitive gestures and a visually-rich UI. Nonetheless, there are also a fair few shortcomings, and we’d particularly encourage would-be owners to try out the keyboard to see how well it suits their finger size; hardware ‘boards don’t necessarily trump their on-screen counterparts. The limited storage is another frustration, though the news that Adobe plan a webOS Flash 10.1 beta later in 2009 does at least promise improved streaming multimedia at some point in the future.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

A lot can happen in five months. Announced to dropped jaws at CES back in January, the Palm Pre has captured attention in a way usually only Cupertino can.

PC World‘s review Edit

The Palm Pre smartphone ($200 with a two-year contract from Sprint as of 6/4/09), along with the company's much-anticipated webOS operating system, has had quite the buzz building up since its splashy launch in January. While the Pre isn't perfect, it definitely does not disappoint: I found the WebOS interface clean, engaging, and intuitive. My main issues were with the hardware itself.

Gizmodo‘s review Edit

One last effort. A slow, but firm, shove of the chips. All in. Palm's only hope to save a company once synonymous with smart handheld devices: the Pre. Their eyebrow raised, daring you to call. They flip. Full house. Respectable. Decent. Impressive even. But not the highest hand.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

We haven't seen so much buzz over a phone since the iPhone, but for the past six months, all eyes have been on the Palm Pre. Introduced at CES 2009, the Palm Pre quickly became the most anticipated phone of the year, not only for what it meant for Palm and Sprint--two companies struggling behind their competitors--but also for what the device promised. The multitasking features, the notification system, a physical keyboard, multitouch screen--all of these factors combined made it, in our opinion, the most legitimate rival to the iPhone yet.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

The Palm Pre is the best phone we’ve ever used. Quite simply, it’s a brilliant phone and we appreciate the detail put into both the hardware and more importantly the software. It at least matches the iPhone, and often trumps it, in just about every aspect...

It's not like we didn't tell you. And hey, it's not like we're on time either. But we guess better late than sorry goes both ways. Once a popular (mostly stateside) PDA and smartphone maker, Palm were going full blast from safe to sorry. So, did they try to put the brakes? Negative. They hit the U turn.
