Sony Ericsson W995 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Sony Ericsson has got it all together with the W995, which is our favourite Walkman phone ever. Enough said, really.

The latest Walkman is packed with good music things, including a decent set of bundled ear buds and portable speakers. But it also has an 8.1 megapixel camera which, while it may not be at the very front of the line when compared with similarly specified camphones, is still capable of some impressive results.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

We liked the Sony Ericsson W995 - it's still very much a music phone, and it does it better than virtually anything bar the iPod, and even though its camera isn't quite at the top of the 8 megapixel game, it's certainly good enough to make it worth your while.

The Sony-Ericsson W995 can do it all, if we look at its specifications. The high resolution digital camera onboard of the phone, really ranks this Walkman phone extremely close to the Cybershot series. It is for a reason that neither Cybershot nor Walkman will be part of the new generation Sony Ericsson phones. The Walkman functionalities of the phone are accompanied and enhanced on the T-Mobile version by the PlayNow Plus music service.

So, what's to like, and not like about the Sony Ericsson W995? To like, there's plenty. The device is small, yet comes with a solid build thanks to its well balanced weight and brushed metal finish that left a lasting impression on us. Secondly, we loved the W995's navigation panel's layout, with adequate space given amongst each button that wasn't too stiff or too small for our liking. The numeric keypad felt great, and we had a ball of a time typing out messages at the speed of light (well, we're exaggerating, but you get the idea).

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

It's difficult not to like the W995 from Sony Ericsson. As an entertainment handset it is comprehensive, providing access to content and the means to get it for free through Wi-Fi. There is even a clip-on speaker bundled in the box that, whilst tinny, boosts the on-board speaker offering and will be great for sharing content with friends.

Yes, I've seen it all before - well except that welcome 3.5mm headphone jack, but I can't help liking the W995. It is not exactly a revolution, but with GPS, Wi-Fi, excellent music playback and control, and a decent camera, it's certainly a feature-rich handset - one that's also well-built and relatively easy-to-use. The screen is a little on the small size to take full advantage of the available video streaming services, but its quality is good. Just remains to be seen if the W995 is a good place for the 'W' branding to take its final bow.

Convergence is the buzzword and the Cyber-shot Walkman affair-turned-marriage is busy producing offspring. And hey, the young Sony Ericsson W995 sure makes the first-born W902 look like a helpless orphan...

Sony Ericsson´s Walkman series flagship, the W995 is not only intended to be a capable music player, it brings along 8.1-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, a lot of memory and special phone stand, designed to allow better video watching experience…
