Toshiba TG01 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

Great hardware, screen and design, but it's expensive and let down by Windows Mobile's dated interface.

With its huge screen and fast processor the TG01 ought to be a ground-breaking, exciting device. It is the former, but a poor user interface means is definitely not the latter, which is a great pity.

The size and layout of the Toshiba TG01 take a bit of getting used to, and its good points include that huge screen, wafer thin profile and high functionality count. The trouble is, it's just not that easy to use, from the unresponsive touch screen to the jerky zoom bar and shallow UI skin that drops you into the fiddly Windows Mobile menus all too soon, it seems like a handset that's not quite finished.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Toshiba TG01 a truly amazing device on which to watch an HD video trailer or the latest glammed up pop video. The sound is good too, but for one-person entertainment rather than talking to anyone at the other end. And this is the Toshiba TG01’s problem: super-stylish but nothing to say (or at least nothing the person on the other end will be able to hear).

SlashGear‘s review Edit

In their rush to get the TG01 to market, they’ve lumbered it with an aging platform and a UI with all the allure of a poorly fitting suit. Snapdragon and the biggest display on a Windows Mobile phone on the market should be irresistible draws, but the take-away impression of the TG01 is of a device half-hearted in its delivery and frustrating in its execution.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

As you can gather, the Toshiba TG01 is a phone that has a few problems to say the least. It's not the worst phone of the year, but for it to be even thought of as a front runner, it certainly needs a huge amount of work.

An iPhone clone with a superb screen, but fails miserably when it comes to usability

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Overall the TG01 isn't exactly a match made in heaven. We're yet to see what the impressive 1GHz processor can really do as it feels like the operating system here just puts the brakes on things. Perhaps Windows Mobile 6.5 will change all that – time will tell.

Toshiba has attempted to give the original TG01 a new lease of life by replacing its Windows Mobile 6.1 installation with Windows Phone. However, on no front has this resulted in a successful phone. Its large screen and fast processor could be useful if you want your phone to be a true mobile workhorse, but then if you want that you should get the HTC HD2. Were it cheaper than the HTC HD2, we could perhaps see merit in the latest TG01, but it's actually demanding the same price and as such there are many better alternatives.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Toshiba has been MIA for some time now, but seems quite intent on making it back to the cell phone market by trying to shake the reigning concept of what high-end cell phone hardware means. Does the brute force of the Toshiba TG01 and its 1GHz Snapdragon chipset get along with Windows Mobile, probably the best business oriented operating system as of now?...
