This camera is absolutely amazing and is unarguably one of the best cameras you can buy, period. But it’s also overkill for most people. Ultimately, it’s aimed at professionals. But then here I am, trying to segue into the realm of professional photography. I’m at the point where I want to start printing my work, and those 42 megapixels will let me make awfully large prints before pixels start becoming obvious. It also has the humongous amount of data that gets captured in each shot, which allows me to do so many more things with lighting, contrast, and color. I drooled over the Sony A9’s speed, but ultimately I don’t shoot sports very often, and the $4,500 price tag wasn’t something I could justify. The A7R III is the better camera by nearly every metric (except for high speed burst JPGs), and it comes in at $3,200.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

With rumors abounding that Canon and Nikon will finally join the serious mirrorless party in earnest this year, Sony have jumped their gun by releasing a camera that's simply better than its direct rivals, be they mirrorless or DSLR. If the Big Two do actually launch full-frame compact system cameras, they've certainly got a lot of catching-up to do to even match the A7R III, never mind beat it. 2018 could certainly be an interesting year in the high-end camera market...

DP Review‘s review Edit

It's fair to say that the Sony a7R III is a great option for an incredibly wide variety of photographers. Offering great image quality, fast burst shooting speeds, high quality 4K video and a reasonably compact package, it's an incredibly well-rounded offering. The endless customization options can be daunting at first, but in the end, it's a camera equally at home capturing fast action one moment, and expansive landscapes the next.
