Samsung Galaxy S8 Pro Reviews

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

For those looking for a bit more flare in the product they use, the Galaxy S8 may be the better solution. Samsung is quicker to embrace forward-looking technologies like super-thin front bezels, glass exteriors and fast wireless charging. This year, more than ever before, it feels like Samsung is acting like the design trend-setter. Sure, its overall package isn't as perfected, but it's bold and willing to experiment, to take bigger risks. Sometimes, these risks pay off, as is the case with the Galaxy S8, which will give you much of the technology and style found in the super-premium and expensive iPhone X, in a way more affordable but still desirable form that is here now. As for the iPhone 8, it's a great phone, perhaps your safest choice in the ~$700 price tier. But safety and excitement often don't go hand-in-hand. The iPhone 8 is nothing more than a perfected iPhone 6, and that's something terribly difficult to get excited about. This is one problem the Galaxy S8 doesn't have.

If you want to shoot photos with your smartphone, and want one of the best possible cameras available, as well as a phone that impresses with a large 5.8inch screen, and a stylish design, then the Samsung Galaxy S8 is definitely at the cutting edge. For those that don't like the recent trend of smartphones growing in size, the Samsung Galaxy S8 offers an impressive screen size, whilst remaining compact thanks to the tall, but narrow display.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

There is one thing that draws a clear line between the Galaxy S8 and the OnePlus 3T, and it’s not the camera, the battery or the software: it’s price. Put simply, the Galaxy S8 is the much more expensive phone! The full retail price of the S8 is set at $720 in the United States, while the 64 GB OnePlus 3T costs $440 and the 128 GB one is priced at $480. That’s nearly a 50% price premium that you pay for the S8. And the price difference is much bigger in markets outside the U.S.: in Europe, the OnePlus price starts at €440, but the S8 price there is actually €800, nearly double the cost of the OnePlus. The biggest thing that the OnePlus lacks is the ‘wow’ factor: you pick up the Samsung Galaxy S8 and you see a futuristic display unlike anything that’s been out before. You pick up the OnePlus 3T and you see a very good phone with a very good camera, battery and performance.

Given the comparable pricing, those looking to buy a new phone may indeed be swayed by the snazzy and unique design of the Galaxy S8, at least until the next iPhone edition lands, provided that they aren't deeply invested in Apple's app and entertainment services already.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

If we stop looking for revolutionary improvements where they are unlikely to be found, and examine the device in itself, we quickly realize that the Galaxy S8 is a truly remarkable smartphone. Samsung has been focusing its efforts in exactly the right areas, which is evident in the Galaxy S8’s excellent performance across almost all essential fields. For most consumers out there, this is the best Android smartphone there is: an elegant and premium design, combined with a powerful but thoughtfully conceived software experience, with exemplary performance where it counts the most. In the end, the Galaxy S8 proves that it’s well worth the asking price, despite being surrounded by tempting low-cost alternatives.

The Galaxy S8 has our subjective sympathy for its luxurious styling and display, as well as all these little things, but if you have to listen to reason alone and be completely objective, the Galaxy S7 is still a great phone on its own.

At the end of the day, we’re split. We like the looks of the Galaxy S8, but for best performance and camera we turn to the Pixel. Choose your priority between these two, and you will know which of these two phones is the better fit for your needs.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Apart from the irritating performance of the biometrics and the high price, the Galaxy S8 is a phone that offers an exceptional experience for any user. The large screen is a real turning point in flagship phone design and should usher in the end of large bezels, and the camera and slick performance work brilliantly under the finger. It commands a premium price, but make no mistake: this is a truly premium phone.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

There had been suspicions that the fallout from the Note 7 battery fiasco might sour would-be Galaxy S8 buyers. Based on the degree of pre-launch excitement, however, those fears seem to have been unfounded. Whether it’s the safety promise implicit in Samsung’s new 8-point battery check, or simply a sign of our general appetite for the latest, greatest, and shiniest gadgets, it suggests neither apathy nor explosion anxiety will do much to dampen sales.

The Samsung Galaxy S8's fast speeds and fantastic curved screen make it a top phone for 2017, but the annoying fingerprint reader could sour your experience.

The Galaxy S8 is every bit as great as its plus-sized brother. It's just smaller, and less expensive.
