Dell Inspiron 15-7548 Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Dell's Inspiron 15 7000 Series 2-in-1 makes for a great laptop and an OK tablet. It feels in every way like a laptop first and foremost, and I found myself defaulting to the laptop configuration in most instances. The extra screen real estate is welcome in certain scenarios in tablet mode, but the display is just too big to hold over your lap, and you may gravitate towards the HP Spectre x360 for these reasons. The Inspiron 15 is a fine machine that is worth the price as tested, and would make a great laptop for professionals or college kids looking for a versatile device. Though the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 offers stronger performance, the Dell hybrid is more affordable and doesn't come loaded with specialized features or options you might not need.

All told, the Inspiron 15 7000 presents a challenging value proposition. On the upside, it's a well-built multimedia laptop with a great 4K display, a pleasing design, and solid battery life. Although somewhat pricey at $1,449, it's much less than Dell's deluxe XPS 15 and offers many of the same features. But when it rains, it pours: We had serious qualms with the model 7548's keyboard both in terms of feel and key arrangement, and furthermore found its performance couldn't measure up to competing 4K notebooks. While we weren't expecting it to be a gaming laptop, its AMD Radeon R7 M270 graphics proved sluggish at all but the lowest resolution and quality settings. We were vexed by the noisy cooling system, which was probably working harder due to the demands of driving a 4K display. Finally, we took issue with the Inspiron's scanty port selection and so-so speakers; the latter lost more points than they might have otherwise considering the unit's excellent screen and status as a multimedia laptop. Overall, it's difficult to consider the 7548 a good value in the face of these compromises. At least for now, we feel a 4K screen deserves more CPU and GPU power backing it up.
