OKI MB492 Pro Reviews

computershopper‘s review Edit

Our most important criteria for monochrome laser-class printers are that they print text well, that they print fast, and that they print inexpensively. OKI’s MB492 meets all of these requirements, and then some. Everything about the MB492 says high-volume. Our only real complaint is the lack of Wi-Fi, or worse yet, that there’s no way to get wireless connectivity on this MFP, which, frankly, might be a sticking point for some would-be buyers. If you require Wi-Fi, several comparably priced competitors either come with it or offer it as an upgrade. To get wireless connectivity and all the benefits, such as several mobile-connectivity and cloud-printing options from OKI, you can step up to the $800-list MB562w or step down to the MB472w. But as we’ve said many times, when shopping for a high-volume printer like this one (or among its competitors), the cost per page is far more important than the purchase price, in the long run. And in this regard, the MB492 hits a grand slam. In any case, that the MB492 doesn’t do wireless is enough to preclude it from taking home our Editors’ Choice nod—but just barely. The super-low CPP was almost enough to offset that. If your network is wired, though, and finding a place to put this printer where an Ethernet cable can reach isn’t an issue, you’ll get great value from OKI’s high-volume MB492.
