Like the WorkForce Pro WF-4630, the strong-performing WorkForce Pro WF-5690 is a well-constructed high-volume MFP, and it has enough productivity and convenience features to satisfy most small offices and workgroups that need high-volume and color printing alike. Combine those features and traits with its very low cost of operation, and it makes for another winner for Epson. However, we should point out, again, that the primary reason this model costs $100 more than the next WorkForce Pro model down is to help Epson pay both the HP (PCL) and the Adobe (PostScript) licensing fees. Again, if you don’t need the laser-printer language emulation—and we suspect you know if you do—but the printer is otherwise a match, Epson’s $299.99 WorkForce Pro WF-5620 is probably a better pick for you. Furthermore, if you don’t require the WF-5000 series’ 45,000-page monthly duty cycle, the even cheaper WorkForce Pro WF-4630 might be the machine for you. The point is that the WorkForce Pro models are priced and configured in neat stair-steps, in a fashion that doesn’t force you to buy more printer than you need. We appreciated that fact more and more as we worked our way through the line in the course of our reviews. If, however, you do need the PCL or PostScript support (few applications call for both), this printer can serve as an able prepress proofing machine while also handling your day-in, day-out giant jobs. It's another way Epson has enhanced the WorkForce Pro line in general—and, in particular, this very solid model's versatility and value.

If you need a multifunction printer that includes PCL or PostScript support, the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-5690 is an excellent fit for moderate to heavy-duty printing in a micro or small office.
