Overall, the MSI GE60 Apache Pro-003 is a remarkably well-rounded gaming laptop. For just $1,349—less than half the cost of a high-end, heavyweight 17.3-inch rig—it offers a comfortable keyboard, vivid 1080p screen, rich and well-balanced audio, and solid gaming performance, all wrapped up in an attractive, lightweight aluminum build. With a price this low, however, some compromises were inevitable. The lack of an SSD makes the GE60's productivity performance a bit poky. The notebook also runs hot when playing games, due to its downward-facing vents, and suffers from an iffy touch pad (though this last is mitigated by the fact that most gamers will opt for an external mouse).Still, we applaud MSI for identifying those qualities we most desire in a gaming notebook—crisp visuals, full-bodied sound, and top-notch (or very nearly top-notch) gaming performance—and focusing on getting those right. The GE60 Apache Pro-003 may not have the biggest muscles on the beach, but it won't get sand kicked in its face, either.
