With a similar price tag, looks, and specs as the SX700, the S9700 is clearly a direct competitor. While we think the SX700 has a better image stabilization system, both cameras take good photos. We prefer the quality of the images we took with the Canon, but the S9700 does offer options for improving the picture quality in-camera; with that said, we just wish it did that by default, as the SX700 did. Just remember to switch the image quality from Normal to Fine, and you’ll get fewer compression artifacts. We think users will be pleased with either camera. The S9700 does one-up the SX700 with built-in GPS. Is it essential? Not really, but for those who like to track where their photos were taken, especially during vacation, it can come in handy. We do wish, however, that the Wi-Fi was more robust.

The Nikon Coolpix S9700 offers a lot of camera in a relatively small, pocketable package. With a 30x optical zoom lens, a 3inch screen, high speed shooting, full HD video, manual controls, built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, there's not much more you could possibly want from a compact digital camera. In fact, there's only one other camera that offers more, in the form of a built in EVF in the Panasonic Lumix TZ60. The Nikon Coolpix S9700 is available for a very good price, being priced slightly less than the competition, and is available in a number of colours, including black, red and white. Images don't show as much detail as we would have liked to see, but colour and exposure are both good which should make the camera ideal for sharing images on social media websites such as Facebook.
