ATI Radeon HD 5970 Pro Reviews

hardocp‘s review Edit

There is no question that AMD knows how to make excellent GPU hardware. We were impressed with the performance of the Radeon HD 5970 when CrossFireX scaling works, and in shader based games. We are very impressed with AMD’s focus of making this an Enthusiast video card with no limits, giving us voltage tweaking and the potential for much higher clock speeds. We are impressed that we can now run Eyefinity resolutions with dual-GPU performance.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

HD 5970 is a big, long graphics card that draws a hefty amount of power and chucks out a significant amount of heat when it is working hard. The 40nm fabrication process has allowed ATi to cram in a massive number of Unified Shaders and the result is that HD 5970 delivers a colossal level of DirectX 11 gaming performance. On the downside the price is equally colossal but when it comes to hardcore gaming we feel that HD 5970 is the only show in town.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

Summarizing the ATI Radeon HD 5970's performance couldn't be any easier. The Radeon HD 5970 is simply the fastest, most powerful single graphics card available today. The Radeon HD 5970 offered better performance than every other graphics card we tested, regardless of the game or application. In comparison to other multi-GPU solutions, the Radeon HD 5970 falls in-line right about where you'd expect it to, considering its specifications.

www.pcper.com‘s review Edit

The new AMD Radeon HD 5970 graphics card takes PC gaming performance to a completely new level by combining a pair of Evergreen-based GPUs on a single PCB, 2GB of GDDR5 memory and plenty of headroom for overclocking. For a single card system, the performance that the HD 5970 provides is simply unmatched but that does not mean the card is without its slight misgivings.

TechSpot‘s review Edit

Make it official, the Radeon HD 5970 is the fastest graphics card in the market, outperforming by a long shot previous generation dual-GPU products. Without full Crossfire support the Radeon HD 5970 will perform somewhere in between a single Radeon HD 5870 and 5850 graphics card, which is still pretty decent.

HEXUS‘s review Edit

Practical considerations aside, and the ultra-high-end GPU market tends to be marked by a rather whimsical approach to judiciousness, the AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 2,048MB becomes the fastest gaming card money can buy. Fermi, over to you.

techreport.com‘s review Edit

What to make of the Radeon HD 5970? On the one hand, it's clearly the fastest graphics card you can plug into your PC, easily outpacing the previous champ, the GeForce GTX 295. This one seemed like an obvious winner, given that it has two of AMD's excellent Cypress GPUs onboard. That means all sorts of goodness we haven't really discussed yet in the context of this review, including a DirectX 11-capable feature set (which no Nvidia GPU has yet delivered) and the highest texture filtering quality on the market. At its default speeds, the card's power draw, thermals, and acoustics are all quite good, too. There's lots to like here.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

The Radeon HD 5970 is faster than the GeForce GTX 295, but it’s also $100 more expensive. Take a look at the benchmarks, judge whether the extra performance/DirectX 11/Eyefinity outweigh $100 savings/PhysX/GeForce 3D Vision, and make your decision accordingly. Just think twice before buying a pair of GeForce GTX 285s. At $370 a piece, the Radeon HD 5970 is faster, cheaper, and arguably more feature-complete than the SLI-based configuration.

If you want a fast setup, you buy a HD 5870. If you want a really fast setup you buy a HD 5970.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 is without doubt the single fastest graphics card on the planet. However, if you own a single monitor then it's simply overkill and the HD 5870 is a much more sensible option. If you're interested in pursuing a multi-monitor gaming setup, though, then this is a card well worth considering.

For gamers with multiple monitors or a 30-inch LCD, or those with healthy bank accounts who want the absolute best, the DirectX 11-capable Radeon HD 5970 is the most powerful graphics card you can currently buy.
