Sapphire VAPOR-X R9 270X OC with Boost Pro Reviews

computershopper‘s review Edit

So, as we’ve now seen, the version of the Radeon R9 280X we tested generally performed a little bit better than the GeForce GTX 770, a card that, at the time of this writing, sold for about $100 more. But as we’ve said, the price of Nvidia’s card will likely fall. So long as that differential holds, or even if it narrows to $50 or so, the R9 280X remains a compelling buy. That said, if you’re a stickler for quiet computing, you may want to advance with care with the Radeon R9 280X. The stock GeForce GTX 770 was fairly quiet in testing, but we can’t say the same for the specific vapor-chamber-cooled Sapphire Vapor-X R9-280X card that AMD sent us for review. Under load, the card’s fans were fairly loud, especially compared to what we’re used to from recent Nvidia cards. The newest Nvidias are equipped with an adaptive temperature controller, which keeps the fan from accelerating or decelerating quickly. Maintaining a steady spin rate leads to a level audio background that's perceptually less noticeable.
