The revised X4 Phenom is a marked improvement over the original quad-core processor but it has lost out in the speed stakes compared to Intel's processors. The likeliest market is the gamer who is determined to run CrossFire graphics on an AMD chipset, but that is probably a tiny part of the PC market.

The new Phenom X4 9850 processor is a very welcome newcomer to the processor segment and it could be responsible for a rebirth of interest in AMD CPUs. The new AMD Phenom X4 9850 is a great processor for its segment even though it is still not able to dominate in any fashion over the Intel quad-core options.

Phenom X4 9850 BE, AMD's new fastest quad-core offering doesn't provide the performance needed to change that fact. AMD's fastest Phenom X4 is still slower than Intel's slowest Core 2 Quad. We're convinced that the Phenom X4 9850 BE is a reasonable processor, but, reasonable just isn't good enough.

We can see the Phenom X4 9850 as an improvement and certainly a step in the right direction. We can recommend you to buy it with confidence if you are not a hardcore gamer or overclocker, considering the competitive price and performance against the Q6600.
