In terms of the performance the MSI GT60 is sublime. The fourth-generation i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, GTX 780M GPU, and 128GB SSD ensure lighting fast performance and response. The notebook is capable of running any game currently on the market, and more importantly it can run any game with extreme efficiency. However, at $3,175, some of the additions made by Xotic PC feel like overkill. Having one of the latest Intel Core i7 processors is great, but the notebook doesn't really need the added performance. The base models of the MSI GT60 2OD offers a 2.7GHz i7-4700MQ CPU; certainly the 3.1GHz i7-4930MX is faster, but it doesn't warrant the $950 price increase. As a gaming device if users truly want to put their money towards boosting performance, opting for a device that allows users to add a second NVidia GeForce GTX 780M would likely result in much better performance gains. That being said, the base model of the MSI GT60 offers a great package for gaming enthusiasts. The build may not be as flashy as the Alienware 17, but it provides excellent performance in a portable package.

Considering its full selection of ports and A/V output options, the GT60 2OD-026US could seriously pass for a primary workstation—a desktop replacement. That may help you digest the $2K price tag, which—while nearly double that of the Lenovo Y500—makes sense when you consider what a powerful and versatile machine you are actually getting. With a little better battery life, a little less heft, the absence of the warranty sticker, and some minor tweaks to the user interface here and there, it’d be hard to find more to ask for the price. As it stands, however, with just a few exceptions, the GT60 2OD-026US is one heck of a well-rounded gaming monster—and certainly worthy of strong consideration if you’re in the market.
