Intel Xeon W5580 Pro Reviews

techreport.com‘s review Edit

The Nehalem Xeons' truly astounding leap in performance over prior generations, in a range of applications, speaks for itself. The largest gains came in our scientific computing/HPC tests, where the Xeon W5580 proved to be between 50% and 100% faster than the Harpertown Xeon X5492. We saw a massive performance increase in SPECjbb 2005, as well, along with more modest but still substantial improvements everywhere else.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

Ironically, there’s plenty of sense in using a dual-processor Xeon W5580 system as an all-round performance PC; it’s great at gaming, and running both consumer and professional applications. Where the Skulltrail platform tried, but ultimately failed to straddle both work and play, a dual-processor Xeon W5580 system is so brutally fast that it muscles through any task you throw at it.

Right now, the 16 cores and triple-channel DDR 3 memory support of the Xeon W5500 look like an expensive luxury but we predict it will become the de facto workstation hardware for 2010.
