Pentax K-500 Pro Reviews

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

We can't think of any other similarly priced DSLR that offers so many features, so if you can live with the lack of weatherproofing that the more expensive K-50 offers, the new Pentax K-500 makes the perfect first DSLR for stills shooters.

The Pentax K-500 boasts top-notch image quality, and a pentaprism viewfinder, which is unheard of at its entry-level price point.

Lots of superb features, but not quite the stunning bargain we'd hoped for

With a feature set that wouldn't look out of place one more costly models, the K-500 is perhaps one of if not the best-specified entry-level DSLRs you'll find thanks in part to the large pentaprism viewfinder, 6fps burst shooting, dual control dials and AF system that includes 9 cross-type sensors. It's also one of the better entry-level DSLRs in the hand thanks to the large and comfy grip, while you should be more than satisfied with the image quality with results from the K-500 are more than a match for its rivals, despite loosing out in the resolution stakes. I'd perhaps like to see a little less underexposure in some shots, but overall there's little to not like, with a very good image noise performance, plenty of latitude in files and a decent amount of detail.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

We have in the Pentax K-500 an entry level model punching some way above its weight. Very well made, an excellent performer and ergonomically one of the best designs around. We still have here a 16.28 megapixel sensor, but this is well proven and produces superb results. Noise control is outstanding, colour quality is superb. Prices may yet fall as this model is new, but outgoing Pentax K-30 and K-5 DSLRs may offer, temporarily, some keen competition themselves. However, for the faster AF then the K-500 could be the better bet, unless you need weather resistance.
