ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

As a budget tablet, the Memo Pad HD 7 perfectly fits the bill. It's fast enough, has all the features you'd expect and a particularly vibrant screen. It's keenly priced and generally offers an excellent user experience. It's also light enough to use comfortably for extended periods. There's no 3G or 4G version of the HD 7 available, so if accessing the internet on the move is a priority, the Asus FonePad is probably the most viable option, despite its lack of camera and slightly inferior performance and audio/visual quality. If you already own a small tablet then the HD 7 is unlikely to appeal, but for people dipping their toes into the market for the first time, this is a very credible option. It won't cost you that much more for the far superior new Nexus 7, but that price difference represents more than 50% of the price of the HD 7, so Asus has managed to find a niche here, and it has filled it rather well.

Engadget‘s review Edit

Make no mistake: ASUS isn't working miracles. The MeMo Pad HD 7's mixed performance, mediocre cameras and minor design issues remind us that the tablet is built to reach a certain price point. If you're looking for the best that ASUS has to offer this year, you'll still want to consider the Nexus 7 or wait for the Transformer Pad Infinity. Still, we can't help but think that the company has delivered a pleasant surprise. The HD 7's battery life, display, software and storage are all above-average in the budget realm; for $150, ASUS' tablet provides an experience that some companies can't manage in devices that cost $200 or more. There's a good chance that some will prefer the Sero 7 Pro's processor or Samsung's familiar software, but the rest of us should be well-served by what the MeMo Pad HD 7 has to offer.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

There’s no arguing about the notoriety and prestige surrounding the newest version of the Google Nexus 7, as it reigns supreme in the 7-inch category, but the Asus MeMo Pad HD 7 is an equally impressive offering on its own. For beginners, it has the advantage in price with its ridiculously low cost of $150, which is a cool $80 less than the Nexus 7. Additionally, it doesn’t skimp out in its set of features too, since it sees its own useful Android experience, boasts a rear camera, and it’s offered in variety of colors. Aesthetically, it’s a cheap looking and feeling tablet, but that doesn’t dissuade us from the obvious – it simply all comes together in the end and just works! If pricing is a concern to you, then this should be on your list, but if not, we’d still recommend the Nexus 7.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

With a retail price of 149 Euros the target group for the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 are bargain hunters, users looking for a second device and people with limited interest in technology. Asus manages to offer a very good device for this price, which could also be the only tablet in the household. We were surprised by the comparatively good performance of the A7 quad-core CPU; it is on the same level with Nvidia's Tegra 3 - which was a high-end processor only one year ago. But the energy consumption is even more important and the Asus tablet does not disappoint thanks to the 28 nm manufacturing process. The only drawback is the limited memory equipment. One GB is not very generous nowadays, some applications need some time to start. Simultaneous installation of applications while running another one resulted in delays. The graphics chip could have also been faster but the performance is sufficient for current Android games. We can still give a recommendation for the Asus Memo Pad HD 7. Compared to the new Nexus 7 you can save 80 Euros - even if the first Nexus 7 was available with a reduced price, the Memo Pad HD 7 would still be the better overall package.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Asus Memo Pad HD 7 is a good, but not great, small tablet option if you're on a budget. In typical "you get what you pay for" fashion, its build looks and feels inexpensive, and its performance is mediocre at best. If you can get past that, the screen's impressive range of color and the abilities to customize and enhance your multimedia experience while maximizing your battery life make it a worthy, inexpensive buy. Your next best option in the 7-inch tablet category, the new Nexus 7, is $80 more -- almost half again the cost of the Memo Pad HD 7-- although it is a significant upgrade. If you're limited by a budget, the tablet is a good option for casual use and multimedia viewing, but if you're not, treat yourself and go with the Nexus 7 for faster performance and a slimmer build.
