ASUS GTX650TIB-DC2-2GD5 Pro Reviews

hardocp‘s review Edit

The ASUS GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost DirectCU II OC can be found on Amazon for $174.99 with Free Prime Shipping, while other GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost based graphics cards with 2GB of GDDR5 can be found for as low as $159.99. For a $15 dollar premium, the factory overclock is a superb value and is a very good performer at the 1920x1080 resolution across our game suite. However, our prior experiences with other GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost based cards has shown that there’s not a significant difference in game play settings between a stock or overclocked card although there is a higher frame rate to be had. The XFX Radeon HD 7790 Black Edition (with a $169.99 MSRP) represents the fastest Radeon HD 7790 based graphics card currently produced, and excellent competition to the GeForce GTX 650 Ti based on price. However, even when overclocked, it is no match for the ASUS GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost DirectCU II OC. In fact no Radeon HD 7790 has come anywhere close to what the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost is able to deliver in gameplay performance. As it is, the Radeon HD 7790 based video cards are overpriced, and underpowered, no matter how much you overclock these. NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost offers more than acceptable performance at 1080p in the $160-$180 price range. We've evaluated a lot of Radeon HD 7790 and GTX 650 Ti Boost based video cards, and we can definitively say that there is no question who is winning the sub-$200 price range at this time, the NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti Boost is a much better value. Therefore, if you've got $174.99 of your hard earned dollars to spend, the ASUS GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost DirectCU II OC is a great video card to consider.

The ASUS GeForce GTX 650 Ti DirectCU II is a surprising and powerful card. At less than 180 dollars which is very cheap and in a very nice sweet spot for most gamers on a budget. Add to this the fact that most gamers are a generation or two back and this card can easily blow away the flagship card from two generations back, so anyone looking for an upgrade would be well served with this card as an upgrade. The performance of this model is very good and its short size means that fitment in all but the smallest cases should not be an issue whatsoever. The GPU Tweak app helps to unlock the full potential of the card quickly and easily with easy and intuitive interface. Anyone looking to upgrade and looking to not break the bank should have no issue picking up one or even two of these cards for still less than the top end GTX 680 and getting commanding performance from their gaming rig!

ASUS’ card set itself apart from the pack by posting respectable framerate numbers, low temperatures and a nearly silent acoustical profile. We couldn't objectively test the component selection's impact upon longevity of stability but the SAP design is supposed to excel in both of those areas. With that being said, in real world gaming scenarios, its out-of-box frequencies don’t allow for performance that’s noticeably different from the reference design. Where the DirectCU II really shines is in the overclocking category where ASUS' excelletn GPU Tweak allowed it to nearly match Galaxy’s competitor in clock speeds. With that factored into the equation, this card can easily match a GTX 660 2GB. For a mere $5 more than a standard GTX 650 Ti Boost, you’d be hard pressed to find a better value.
