The Brother is almost an exceptional machine. The colour is well-produced and fast, but it is rather expensive in terms of running costs, so you may want to use colour less frequently. Black text is strong for the level, and running costs and performance are good here. Auto duplexing would have made it better, and we suspect a few offices will miss the presence of ethernet - although Wi-Fi and good connectivity otherwise offers compensation. For the user whose needs are compatible with the Brother's strengths, this is a fantastic buy.

In short, the HL-3140CW is a fast and capable laser-class printer, but considering that you can buy much the same machine for $30 more with twice the RAM, more robust support for mobile devices and cloud-site channels, automatic duplexing, and Ethernet connectivity, frankly, we have a problem suggesting that you purchase this printer. That's unless you’re sure you would never benefit from any of these additional features down the road, and that, as we see it, would be hard to predict.Then, too, there’s this model’s relatively high CPP (in fairness, a problem with nearly every other laser or LED model in this price range). Brother recommends that you print somewhere between 300 to 1,500 pages per month on this printer. Were you to actually print 1,500 pages each month on this machine, doing so would cost you hundreds of dollars more each year, compared to high-volume business-oriented inkjets or higher-volume color laser printers.

The Brother HL-3140CW color LED printer's output quality is a touch below par, but it offers fast speed, good paper handling, and Wi-Fi Direct for easy mobile printing.
