Samsung Galaxy Young Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Samsung Galaxy Young was never going to be the best handset ever brought to market, but it manages to bring a lot of features that make Samsung handsets so successful whilst coming in at a reasonable price tag. This means that it is ideal as a first time smartphone or second phone that will cover you in emergencies, or even as backup so you don't have to take your flagship handset away with you whilst travelling the world. As a first foray into the smartphone market or as a cheap handset to offer kids to take to school I can think of few other phones at this price tag, although if you're thinking about a two year contract I'd advise looking at the Nokia Lumia 520.

Very cheap SIM-free, but compromised by its slow processor

GSMArena‘s review Edit

The Galaxy Young is an easy package to live with if you approach it with the right attitude. Of course you can't expect to be getting a Galaxy S4 for the fraction of the price. We're talking a totally different set of users and, most likely, completely different markets as well. The Galaxy Young couldn't have been clearer about its target demographic. And it looks like the right thing for first-time smartphone users.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Galaxy Young's low price and the fact it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean are really all it has going for it. Its low grade hardware and dire performance mean that we'd rather have an alternative budget smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich, or even Windows Phone 8, which can deliver in these key areas.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

Are you looking for the cheapest possible smartphone, but with full-fledged Android? With the Galaxy Young Duos, Samsung does not only offer such, but also, thanks to the phone's compact size, it is decent for children and persons with small hands. However, it is slightly thicker than many high-end models. The performance is rather low for an Android smartphone. Still, apart from occasional stuttering, it suffices the majority of everyday tasks. However, it is not appropriate for complex games. Build quality, design, speaker, and energy consumption are decent. One of the most important features works very well: switching between two SIM cards without reboot. Overall, the Galaxy Young Duos includes everything required for a smartphone. However, a low-resolution display, muffled camera pictures, and only a few accessories are cons, which are usual in this price range. If you prefer a bigger smartphone and require dual SIM support, you could consider the Amoi N821 or Jiayu G3 and you will get your money's worth. In many aspects the Sony Xperia E Dual is on par with the Samsung Galaxy Young. Therefore, the decision is rather a matter of personal taste.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

The Galaxy Young brings a gradual improvement in the Android low end with a 3.3-inch display that is slightly larger than on the preceding Galaxy Y, a bump up in the camera department and a slightly more capable battery, but what has changed even quicker is the face of competition. At its affordable off contract price of around $150, the Galaxy Young meets the fierce rivalry of larger and more capable phones from Chinese vendors. You can even get a device with a quad-core MediaTek chip from China for almost the same price. And if you are not particularly keen on the dual-SIM functionality and are willing to pay a bit more, Nokia’s Lumia 520 is one offer from a known manufacturer that is better in every single way - from screen size and quality, to processor and camera. It runs on Windows Phone, though. The Galaxy Young would be a good choice for those who value compact devices from a well established brand like Samsung and the presence of dual-SIM functionality and the contemporary Jelly Bean with the TouchWiz skin are all a plus.
