Acer Aspire M5-481PT-6488 Pro Reviews

SlashGear‘s review Edit

The Aspire M Touch is a sleek-looking laptop, and there’s no doubt about that. Some of the design elements are a bit wonky, though. For example, most of the important ports that you need to get to are all located on the back, save for the headphone/microphone jack and the SD card slot. It makes sense to have the power port and the HDMI port on the back, that way you have cables sticking out from the sides, but having all the USB ports located on the back of the laptop is just a plain nuisance. However despite the low travel of the keyboard keys and the plastic trackpad, using both actually wasn’t too bad; it was certainly a better experience than other Windows laptops that I’ve played with, so I can’t complain too much in that respect.

TheVerge‘s review Edit

The Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 isn't close to a perfect laptop, but it ticks so many of the right boxes for so many people that it has some real appeal. The lackluster screen and speakers make it an iffy choice for a purely multimedia machine, and it's not as stylish or responsive as some of the bleeding-edge ultrabooks we've seen. But for an on-the-go individual looking for a computer with solid battery life, a durable chassis, a Windows 8 touchscreen or game-capable graphics, and a very reasonable price point, the 14-inch Aspire M5 is a fantastic deal.

PC World‘s review Edit

The Acer M5-481PT feels like a holdover of a bygone era in laptop design, where all laptops tried to be all things to all people. While its robust feature set and solid build quality are impressive for the modest $800 pricetag, the M5 feels like an outlier in the Ultrabook class, a product line defined by extreme portability and sleek design. The end result is a product that feels kind of like a 100-tools-in-1 swiss army knife. It can perform many tasks adequately, but none particularly well, and its practically worst-in-class form factor hampers its portability and convenience. The M5-481PT is a respectably solid, general purpose budget laptop, but is easily outclassed by its more ambitious and appealing Ultrabook brethren.

Cnet‘s review Edit

This slight tweaking of the previous Acer M5 offers up a touch screen and good, solid battery life, plus a DVD drive, in a compact and reasonably attractive form for a good price. It's not eye-popping in any single way, but the sum total feels like a safe way to invest in Windows 8 for those apprehensive about convertibles and crazy detachable tablets. It's a regular laptop, and a thin one at that, with the option of touch navigation. Other competitors are out there in force with similar products, but this is a solid representative of the type and a worthy one to consider, especially if you care about having DVD access.
