Sony HDR-XR520V Pro Reviews

Macworld‘s review Edit

The HDR-XR520V is a solid HD camcorder, with lots of storage, and good manual controls. But the image quality is unremarkable - it’s fine, but there are other camcorders that produce better-looking movies.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Sony HDR-XR520 is the world's first Full HD Handycam with built-in GPS. It uses a mix of traditional controls and a touchscreen LCD to make function selections. The touchscreen has impressive clarity, and its 3.2in dimensions provide a useful widescreen-style ratio. The bottom line for many potential consumers is price, and yes, the XR520 is a long way from the pocket camcorders offering HD footage for under £300. However, its list of features is lengthy and serious moviemakers would be unwise to dismiss any model with optical image stabilization, Dolby Digital 5.1ch sound, manual modes and enthusiast must-haves such as mic input and headphone output.

Camcorderinfo‘s review Edit

The Sony HDR-XR520V (MSRP $1499.99) packs a lot of punch - and a lot of hard drive capacity - into a relatively small consumer camcorder. The retractable viewfinder and the return of last year's excellent manual control dial are just a couple of the features that will intrigue proficient camcorder users. Also intriguing? The incredibly low noise levels, clear and smooth motion, built-in GPS, and 240GB internal hard drive.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

Sony has clearly thrown everything in its extensive arsenal at the HDR-XR520. For a start, the sensor is a healthy 1/2.9in CMOS. Although this isn't quite as big as Canon is using in its LEGRIA HF S10 or JVC in its Everio GZ-X900, Sony also incorporates its Exmor R technology, which has proven highly effective in its professional models.

Sony's HD bad boy is here! The 240GB camcorder kicked some low light butt and looked hot while doing it.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Though their geotagging capabilities are mostly novelty and their interfaces could use a complete overhaul, the top-notch video quality, performance, and consumer-friendly feature sets of the Sony Handycam HDR-XR500V and HDR-XR520V make them worthy camcorder options. Both are overpriced, but since 14 hours of recording time is plenty--especially if supplemented with flash media--the HDR-XR500V is the better deal of the two.
