Between these two entry-level machines, the output quality is comparable, but the cost of operation is a good bit lower on the ESP 3.2. If you use your printer a lot, the difference in the cost of printing—especially black-and-white pages—will wind up much more expensive on the Photosmart 6520. However, the Kodak AIO doesn’t support memory cards or automatic duplexing (unassisted two-sided printing). If these features are important to you, you might be better off with the Photosmart 6520. One thing to bear in mind: Neither the HP nor the Kodak model is designed to be a high-volume workhorse. If you print many photos (which cost considerably more to print than business documents do), over time an AIO with lower CPPs will save you lots of money, well beyond the cost of the printer itself. Households that plan to print lots of photographs over an extended period are better off paying a little more for the printer, if doing so gets you a machine with a lower CPP. Overall, we liked this printer, but you need to consider carefully where you might deploy it. All things considered—the high CPPs, the small input and output trays, and the lack of an ADF—this Photosmart makes sense only as a low-volume, occasional-use AIO for households that simply don’t need to print, copy, and scan a lot of documents and photos.
